It only took two days of watching the commercials over and over again on Nickelodeon before my kids started their campaign to get me to buy something that they knew darn well would NEVER grace the shelves of this house. I was going to refuse to buy them strictly on principle- if something is advertised as a breakfast food but is really more like candy, I don’t buy it. I don’t buy Pop-Tarts, I don’t buy cereal with marshmallows, and I wasn’t going to buy these:

I mean my gods, look at the ingredient list. Can you spot the forms of processed sugar?
WHEAT FLOUR, SUGAR, VEGETABLE OIL (PALM, SHEANUT, AND COTTONSEED OILS), MALTODEXTRIN, COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, FRUCTOSE, CONTAINS TWO PERCENT OR LESS OF GLUCOSE SYRUP, NONFAT MILK, EGGS, SOY LECITHIN, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SALT, PGPR (POLYGLYCEROL POLYRICINOLEIC ACID), NIACINAMIDE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), TOCOPHEROLS FOR FRESHNESS, RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), THIAMIN HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B1), SESAME FLOUR, VITAMIN B12, VITAMIN D.
What the heck is a “sheanut”? But I bought them, because it had been a particularly tough day and I knew that this $2.50 (on sale) package of treats would make them happy. And then I took a bite of one. And they are GOOD. It’s like cocoa puffs on the outside and a chocolate bar on the inside. I’m not going to start eating them regularly, and I’m not going to buy them regularly either, but dammit Kellogg’s, did you have to make them taste so good?

I so know what you mean. I never buy stuff like that either, but this past weekend, I caved and bought a box of PopTarts with a Disney Pixar “Cars” theme. The look on my three year old’s face made it impossible for me to deny him.
They were promptly consumed and once they came down from the sugar and food dye high, life went back to normal
Carla- Ah yes, the things we do to see that look on our childrens’ faces!
Ethan has been asking for those recently too ~ I haven’t given in yet!
Loretta- If it’s any consolation, the straws are big, and although a serving is three, my kids eat them one at a time and are satisfied. One has 45 calories, one gram of fat, and only 4 grams of sugar. I’m pretty sure that’s less than a graham cracker!
Just bought these last night! My son also saw them on tv and spotted them immediately at the store and since they weren’t too expensive I let him have them. We eat a little too much junk food here in our house and I figured that since this would force him to drink a cup of fat-free milk with it then all is good.
Amanda- I like the way you think! Did you try one? Did you like it? I thought they were pretty good.
