HopeCube-social networking with a twist

I love social networking sites! I have profiles up at half a dozen different ones. And for the most part they are just a fun way to connect with other people, create interest in my blogs, and make new friends. But there is also a new social networking site called
HopeCube.com,where people with health issues such as Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Infertility, and many more can get information about their illness and connect with others. It’s hard enough dealing with a serious issue, but what if you don’t have a support group? What if you don’t have close family or friends that you can talk to? HopeCube gives you a way to find people that are dealing with a similar issue, and will understand. Even better, not only can HopeCube users create a profile but so can doctors, giving patients a completely new way to discuss their health issues with medical professionals. Right now there are only two doctors signed up with the site; hopefully more will join soon.

I registered at the site so I could see all that is available, and even if you don’t have a medical issue, there are tons of great articles to read. You can connect with other parents that have children the same age as you by browsing to the Parenting section, and you’ll see links to information such as:

# Parenting – Adolescents
# Parenting – Elementary and Middle School Years
# Parenting – Newborn
# Parenting – Preschooler
# Parenting – Toddlers

Don’t have children? Do you have Women’s Issues? How about these topics:

# Hysterectomy
# Menopause
# Miscarriage
# Ovarian Cysts
# Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
# Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Or maybe you’d like to find others who are dealing with Personal Issues such as sexual abuse, domestic violence, infidelity, or financial problems. HopeCube is a place to find other people who will understand what you are going through, with whom you can share your experiences, with information to better help you handle and manage your health issue. HopeCube takes the idea of “user-generated content”-think MySpace, or YouTube, and gives it a health twist. What a great way to use the concept of social networking-to help people find help.

Thanks Elisabeth for mentioning Hope-Cube. These last days I’ve been dealing with my father’s Alzheimer’s and I already checked and Hope-Cube has a Category for that disease. Also parenting advice is welcome.
