Is anyone else watching “Journeyman”?

by Elizabeth on October 29, 2007

I am completely hooked on NBC’s “Journeyman”, which airs Monday nights after “Heroes”. The writing is solid, the lead actors are terrific, and I like the whole mystery-detective aspect of it.

In each week’s episode, Dan Vassar, newspaper columnist, finds himself traveling back in time, going back anywhere from a few years to a few decades, and saving someone’s life. Then for the rest of the episode, he has to figure out why he saved that person, as he continues to travel back, usually as the person he saved is getting older, in order to guide that person to whatever their purpose for being saved is. I know, it’s confusing, but you just have to go with the flow.

It’s fun to watch Dan, played by Kevin McKidd (“Rome”), try to figure out where in time he is, figure out how to get along without the currency from that time (shopkeepers keep thinking his 2007 money is counterfeit because it looks so different), and most of all, avoid running into himself and his now-wife. He is guided during his time travels by his former love, Livia, and has a wife, Katie and son, Zack at home. Oh, and his older brother is a cop who is getting suspicious of all of Dan’s unexplained disappearances.

I have this history of watching new shows and then they get cancelled. But I’m really hoping that won’t be the case for “Journeyman”. Next to “Heroes”, it’s my favorite show on TV!

I have tried watching it a few times, and I just can’t get into it.
It reminds me of two old shows that used to be on Quantum Leap and Early Edition.
Both of those shows had the lead character either going back in time or being given information, to help them help someone either in the past or future who needed help.
But to me, Journeyman is kind of boring. The lead guy is just a really quiet talker, the woman who plays his wife, *yawn*

Kat-I never got into Quantum Leap, but I liked Early Edition. Remember he had a blind friend that helped him? And Kyle Chandler=cutie!

Journeyman has grown on me. The woman who plays his wife has a huge bio on IMdB, and I thought she finally got her chance to shine in last night’s episode. I’m sticking with it in hopes that it will catch on. Thanks for the comment!

Kat has a point, it is somewhat like Quantum Leap but not quite so. This was supposed to be the prequel to Heroes so I read somewhere but he doesn’t quite have power over his abilities like in Heroes. He just goes with the flow. I do like it though.
