Monthly Art Walk

St. Augustine, Florida, is not just the United States’ oldest city, it also is known for a special event that takes place the first Friday and Saturday of each month, from 5 to 9 p.m. It’s known as the First Friday Weekend Art Walk, and it features the latest art exhibits as well as music, entertainment and refreshments at over twenty participating galleries. Doesn’t that sound like a great way to spend a weekend evening? Lansing may be the Capitol of Michigan, but it is sorely lacking in artistic culture.

The St. Augustine Artwalk starts at a place called Rembrandtz Fine Gifts for Fun People, and a company called St. Augustine Sightseeing Trains and Old Town Trolleys provides complimentary shuttle service that runs in a loop, stopping at most of the galleries. The galleries feature artists who work in watercolors, oils, and acrylics, many of which capture the beauty of St. Augustine, and one who is famous for a poster he painted of a firefighter kneeling down and holding a flag, created after Sept. 11. If you live near St. Augustine or are planning a vacation to that area, the First Friday Weekend Art Walk would be a great trip to add to your itinerary.
