Great gift ideas from Scholastic!

The more reports there are in the news about toy recalls, the more we as parents are looking for alternatives this Christmas. And one great idea for gifts is books! If you have a child in elementary school, you have probably heard of Scholastic. They hold book sales at schools and send home those paper catalogs every month, but they also have an eStore. There are some terrific ideas for boys and girls of every age, here are a few of my favorites:
From Little Scholastic, “a developmental publishing program of interactive books created exclusively to give babies and toddlers a head start in learning”, comes this adorable book for babies and toddlers. Every book features:
* Interactive components * High color contrast * Rhyming, repetitive, or predictable text * Familiar subjects and surroundings * Simple concepts *
How To Build A Snowman features different textures to touch on each page, from the soft snowball to the felt hat. As your child turns the page, they will see a snowman being assembled. The drawings are simple, feature familiar objects, and the story is cute. I recommend it for up to age 3! Price $9.99 from The Scholastic Store.
Described as “A guide for the well-rounded goof”, this book is going to be perfect for my eleven year old son. It really is an encyclopedia of every gross, funny, and immature thing that boys would be interested in knowing. Like, how to hang a spoon from your nose, how to make a french fry container pop the french fries up into the air, how to trick your friends with “magic” tricks. I recommend the spiral bound edition, so that your “goof” can lay the book flat while practicing their immaturity
Price $19.95 from The Scholastic Store.
And for the Star Wars lover in your family, you need to get the amazing Star Wars:A Pop-Up Guide To The Galaxy, by Matthew Reinhart. It might cost $32.99, and it might only have 6 pages, but I guarantee it is going to amaze whomever you buy it for. It has features like working lightsabers, pull tabs, and popups of scenes from the movies. This 30th Anniversary Commemorative edition is a must for Star Wars fans and collectors! Available at The Scholastic Store.
I hope you have enjoyed this look at just a few of the exciting titles available at The Scholastic Store. Books always make a great gift!

When I taught school, I would always hand out the Scholastic book order forms. Of course, I would end up ordering books also. I have quite a little library of picture books, etc, which will come in very handy when our grandbaby is a little older. And who knows, in ten years I might be buying the Encyclopedia of Immaturity for him. I know our son would have liked it when he was young. LOL
Charla-I LOVE Scholastic! I have a hard time restraining myself when the boys’ schools have the Scholastic Book Fairs. I know my kids are going to love these books!
