I received the most amazing set of DVDs and CDs called The Little Laureate series. They are of the absolute highest quality, educational beyond belief, and best of all, so enjoyable to watch that both my eleven year old and two year old are equally fascinated. And that’s saying a lot!
Little Laureate My World Gallery:
This DVD shows paintings digitally drawn on screen that form works by famous painters such as Van Gogh and Picasso, and even an illustration from Good Night, Moon, which shows how paintings are made up of different shapes. Kaitlyn sat fascinated through the whole thing, and I enjoyed the music by Mozart, Beethoven, and Bizet. I noticed she perked up especially during the scenes with Star, who teaches shapes by showing what shapes fit inside a star, what shapes you can see in the clouds, with the help of a narrator. She also enjoyed the scenes of real children drawing pictures of flowers outside in a park. They cut out the pictures and glue the flowers to construction paper to make cards-great craft idea!
Little Laureate My World Adventure:
In this DVD, Star goes on a global adventure, learning about Art, architecture and animals. The music includes Mozart symphonies, African tribal rhythms and Chinese lullabies. Kaitlyn liked this one a lot except for the Africal tribal dancers, who were wearing large painted masks and beating drums; it was the first time I heard her say the word “scared”. The interstitial clips include how to say “I Love You” in five different languages.
Little Laureate My World Colors:
This DVD is like a combination of the previous two, showcasing colorful works of art as well as colorful architecture like the blue domes of Greece. We’ve only watched this one once, and I have to admit, I was only half paying attention, I know, bad reviewer. But the music was just as stirring as the previous DVDs, and Kaitlyn didn’t look away for the whole hour!
All I can say is, if you want to purchase a DVD and CD that will truly entertain and educate a child, these are the ones you want. Art, music, culture, travel, architecture, all set to the world’s most beautiful classical music-it’s everything you want in an educational DVD. Each set comes with a CD featuring an hour of music performed by the Moscow International Orchestra. In addition to the DVD soundtrack, there are additional tracks as well.
Each set also includes a 24 page booklet with information about the art, artists and music on the disc, plus tips on raising a creative child. Oh, and not only did my two year old daughter enjoy these, but my eleven year old son came home from school one afternoon when My World Gallery was on, and he sat and watched it too. It’s really for the whole family!
Want one? Or all three? The Little Laureate website has ordering information as well as informative articles on how art improves literacy and how music stimulates brain development. Each set costs $34.95, BUT, if you order BEFORE JANUARY 15TH, and use the code PROMO, you can BUY ONE GET ONE FREE! That is an amazing deal for two incredible DVDs AND two classical music CDs. You really shouldn’t pass this one up, people. This is the kind of gift that will be used, appreciated, loved, and will entertain and educate. It really doesn’t get much better than that!
