Brrrr! I need some heat!

by Elizabeth on December 29, 2007

Thanks to the four inches of snow that fell yesterday, I am typing this with freezing cold fingers while wearing sweats and huddling under a heavy blanket. Our heat is turned on to a respectable 68 degrees, but the problem is that the large picture window in our back room has bad seals, and the cold air just seeps right on in. What we really need in that room is some kind of extra heat.

I was thinking about getting a wall heater like we have for the boys’ room, but the problem with that is that the back room is so much bigger, that the heat generated by a wall heater just wouldn’t warm the whole room. I really wish the room had a fireplace, not because I would want to light an actual fire, but because we could get vent free gas logs, which don’t use actual flame but put out an impressive amount of heat. Plus, they look nice. I’m hoping that some day we can get that window fixed and remodel that room, and get some more freaking heat back there!

I know how you feel! We have had to turn down our heat to 55. We have propane and can’t offered the $1000 a month bill. Running electric heaters is actually cheaper then the propane!

My mom would like a fireplace also. She actually has one to put in, but my lazy step dad wont do it.

Try to stay warm!

We have bad seals on several of our windows and the siding on the house has warped along the longest wall in my bedroom. It’s cold in the basement where my office and our family room are, but it’s freezing in our bedroom. Seriously. I woke up yesterday and saw my breath!

We keep the house at 68 but it just doesn’t get warm in here, so I’ve taken to carrying a twin-sized electric blanket with me from room to room.

You can have my heat, I have had the AC on for about 2 weeks now :)

Oh, I hear you. I have no clue how I can afford heating oil this winter, so I don’t put the heat over 58. I wear layers of clothes, gloves, and spent lots of time with my trusty heating pad. Problem is I have had pneumonia for two months now and it won’t get any better. The doctor thinks the extreme cold is causing stress on my immune system. Heck, I don’t have a solution! Anyhow…stay warm :)
Nice blog! This is my first trip, but I’ll be back.

I can totally relate to how you feel. Its absolutely freezing here and I am not sure how long I can leave it before putting the heating up.

I know i will get into debt, but I also know I can’t handle this cold any longer.

Great blog!

Why don’t you just shut the door to that room? This will make the rest of the house much warmer. And frankly, it’s time to think about re-sealing your windows. You are wasting your money on heating the outside…

I can understand how you feel. However, the contradiction is that some people from a very hot place just want the heat to be lesser. How good if some of the heat can be transferred to your place. It will form a win-win situation! =)

I use fabrics on large walls to keep heat in. Fabrics also help baffle sound, which creates a soft comfortable ambience. You might try hanging oversized curtains that completely cover your windows. Not only will it make the windows appear larger, cold air is blocked, and heat can’t escape.

HA! I live in Texas… I wish it was somewhat cold down here. I’ve been running the AC since the end of january. I hardly ever have to turn the heater on… If i’m cold, I just wrap myself up in a blanket or something.
