Even spammers make a good point sometimes

I got a comment on my post about how cold my house is from someone whose parents apparently named him “Texas Defensive Driving”. Man, that must have gotten him teased a LOT in school, huh?
He asked why I didn’t just close the door to the playroom with the badly sealed window to keep the cold air from spreading through the house. Great question, Tex. I should have mentioned in that post that we live in a ranch-style house, which means that the only rooms that have doors are the bedrooms and bathrooms. Otherwise, the living room and dining room lead into the kitchen through a, well, cut-out space in the wall, but with no door. Then from the living room there’s another cut-out that goes down a hallway that leads directly into the playroom. No doors.
And yes, Tex, we should take care of getting the window sealed. It’s an extra-large, double picture window, and the window company that gave us an estimate when we first moved in said that particular brand of window is no longer manufactured, so we would have to have an entire window and frame custom-made to fit the space. It will cost at least $650.00, possibly more now that two years have gone by. For now, we’ll just have to be cold. But thanks for your concern!

What? You don’t have $650 just lying around? come on! I find that hard to believe… bwahahahaha

Mimi-I know, right? Of course, before Google took my Page Rank away, I could have buckled down and made $650 in a month, easy. So it’s their fault that I’m cold! lol
LOL - Yes, let’s blame Google for cold children! >:) Hee hee…
What do you do about these sort of half spam comments, Elizabeth? This is a new problem I’ve run into. Do I let the comment through since it’s relevant and they actually took the time to read the post? What’s your opinion?
Tee’s last blog post..I not feels so good
You know, I can’t think of the last time I was in a house that had doors on anything but bedrooms and bathrooms. I had no idea there was a name for that kind of house, besides “normal.” In my parents’ house we used a bedroom as the “office,” so that had a door, but everything else was wide open. Isn’t that typical? I can’t think of a special reason I’d want doors on, say, a kitchen - expect for saloon doors, of course, so I can pretend I’m in a Western.
As for spam comments, Tee, I think it’s fair to let them through if they’re relevant and thoughtful. Someone using a real name doesn’t guarantee they’re legitimate, just as using a company name doesn’t mean they’re evil spammers.

Tee-My comment policy says if they don’t use a real name when they leave their comment, I will assign them a name myself. So I’ll edit that comment and change the name to “Tex” or something. Why? Because unless a robot left that comment, the person who left it is not named “Texas Defensive Driving”. The only reason to leave that as a name is to try to draw my readers away from here to click to his website. I appreciate his comment, but it’s my blog, my rules, right?
Liz-One of my favorite shows is “Clean Sweep”, and it always surprises me when the room they are cleaning out is an office or kids’ playroom, and it has a door. I wish we had an extra bedroom with a door that I could use as an office!
You also bring up a good point that a real name in a comment doesn’t mean the comment isn’t spam, and vice versa. That’s why I almost always leave all comments posted, but I will change the name. Why? Because the comment came from a person, not “Texas Defensive Driving”. The only reason I can see to not use a real name is to try to draw readers away, hoping that they are interested in learning about Texas Defensive Driving or whatever. So like my comment policy says, I edit the comment to give the commenter a “real” name.
You can go to the nearest hardware store and buy a weather sealing transparent film kit. You might be able to find one that is big enough for your window, or you may use some creativity and combine several smaller kits into a big one.
“Spammers” leave comments on the blogs not to lure people from your site, but to get ranked higher in search engines. Text of the link is important for good ranking. When you change this text, you greatly diminish the value of this link. If this is you way of saying “thank you” to a stranger that tried to help you - go ahead…
Using clear silicone calk can seal a window without being seen.
when you use it, be sure to have a damp sponge there and ready.
Lay in as thin a bead of clear silicone as possible.
then wet your finger (using your fingers lets you pick the closest to the size you need)
spread the bead flat into the corners.
I hope this helps you.
As for the keywords in the name spot, your right , your blog, your rules. but I would also mention that I’m not some slime ball but a disabled vet who didn’t want to collect social security and welfare for a living . I work long hours and try to make my comments relevant. and as another said when you change that link then you ruin what we have worked to do by reading your blog and taking the time to add thoughtful comment.
