Family Talk from Around the Table Games

by Elizabeth on June 23, 2008

With the exception of Friday when we eat pizza in the living room, my family sits down together at the kitchen table for dinner every night. We usually talk about our day, the kids ask my husband what he did at work, we talk about what we did around the house. It’s pleasant, but when we received Family Talk 2 from Around the Table Games, our dinner conversations got much more interesting!

The Family Talk games have 100 cards either on a clip or in a jar, each with a question designed to get the family talking. I really enjoyed hearing my kids’ answers to questions like “What subject in school will be most useful in life?”-Ryan answered “Social Studies” and Nathan answered “Writing”. Not surprisingly, the answer to the question “Name a rule at home or school that you would like to change” was answered the same by both kids-the one hour video game rule! And even though my husband and I have been together for 23 years, I don’t normally ask him deep questions in the course of a regular day, so it was nice to hear his answer to “Have you ever been homesick? what made you feel better?” His answer, from when he is on business trips, is looking at photos of us on his computer, awwww!

The games are also available in the original Family Talk, and in the unique Grandparent Talk, which allows grandchildren and grandparents to learn more about each other while keeping family history relevant and alive.

GIVEAWAY-Three winners can choose their favorite Family Talk Game, the original Family Talk, Family Talk 2, or Grandparent Talk. My kids would LOVE this – we play a game called “what am I” and it is getting stale. I do try to encourage them to talk and enjoy dinner vs. the usual arguing so dinner time is usually more relaxing than the rest of the day.

This sounds like a wonderful game. I work as a family counselor. Communication is something that is really lacking with parents and adolescents. This game will really help me in my work. Where can i purchase this.
