The California Strawberry Commission says, Eat More Strawberries!

Mmmm, strawberries! MomCentral is spreading the word about this delicious, nutritious berry, plus asking us to share our favorite way to eat strawberries. Did you know that a serving of strawberries, which is just 8 of them, has more vitamin C than an orange? Here’s some more great information from the California Strawberry Commission:
* Are America’s favorite fruit
* Are available year-round
* Are enjoyed by the vast majority (94 percent) of Americans
* Have more vitamin C per serving than an orange
* Are naturally low in sugar - only eight grams per serving
* Rank second among the top ten fruits in antioxidant capacity (TAC)
* May help reduce the risk of heart disease, fight some types of cancer and lower blood pressure
*My very favorite way to eat fresh strawberries is to simply wash them and pat them dry with a paper towel, slice off the stem, then cut them into slices-place the slices in a bowl, and top them with a hefty dollop of Vanilla Yogurt. Once you have that, it’s hard to ever eat the “fruit on the bottom” type of yogurt!
*Some mornings, nothing beats a crunchy piece of toast spread lightly with butter and topped with thick strawberry jam, either
*For a deliciously light summer dessert, try my version of Strawberry Angel Food Cake:
Buy one prepared Angel Food Cake, cut it into eight slices, and place each slice in the bottom of a wide bowl. Thaw a large box of presweetened strawberry slices, or buy the unsweetened kind and use your own favorite sweetener to taste. Ladle some strawberries onto each piece of Angel Food Cake, then plop on a big spoonful of whipped cream. It’s like Heaven in a Bowl!

I grew up with my mom’s fresh strawberries and cream sauce. I’m sure I don’t want to know what is in it, but the sauce was made with cream, sugar, and probably lots of other things that are not good for you.
But oh…..the taste….with the sweet strawberries…..YUM!

When I was a kid, for unknown reasons, we had a tiny strawberry plant growing next to our driveway. I don’t know where it came from, and it only yielded a few strawberries every summer, but they were the most delicious things I had ever eaten. I love store-bought strawberries too, but none of them can quite compare.

There is no doubt that strawberries are one of the most tasteful fruits in the world. I even don’t know any person which would hate it. But I also do know that easting them in big amount may cause allergies, especially when it comes to children.
