I had always sent my boys to school with money to buy milk there, it never occurred to me to look for any kind of portable milk product, and I’ve never liked the way milk tasted coming out of thermos. Then one day we were at the mall and we stopped in to Panera for lunch. They serve Horizon Organic chocolate milk with their kids meals, in single serving boxes. Ryan informed me that it was the best chocolate milk EVER. So when MomCentral asked for reviewers to sample Horizon Organic single serve milk, I signed right up.
We received four single serve boxes of milk-Lowfat Plain, Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. I put them in the fridge to chill, then handed them out after school. Fortunately, each of my three kids likes a different flavor! Ryan let Nathan have the Chocolate and took the Vanilla for himself, I took a sip and it tastes like melted vanilla ice cream! The chocolate is delicious, of course, and Kaitlyn, my child who prefers strawberry ice cream to any other flavor, loved the Strawberry milk.
Even more important than the taste and the portability of these milk boxes is that the milk is organic. Horizon Organic takes that concept to it’s fullest meaning, from it’s company-owned dairy farms that practice a Standard of Care encompassing everything from calf raising to Holistic Health Management to how the pastures are maintained. Horizon Organic dairy cows have access to grass and exercise and are even fed an organic, herbivorous diet. I’d venture to guess that the cows live a happy life!
The Horizon Organic website is packed full of information about the company, their practices, and their products. And best of all, it’s got recipes, TONS of them, that use Horizon Organic brand milk, cream, cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, and butter. I’m positively drooling over the Raspberry Chocolate Chip muffins shown on the home page, I’ve got the Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas on my recipe list for this week, and I’ve got my eye on a few other recipes too. Horizon Organic products are sold at Kroger here, so I don’t have to go to any kind of specialty or health food store to buy them.
Which is a good thing, because Ryan asked me to please buy “LOTS” of the Single Serve Milk boxes for his lunches, and I’m sure Nathan and Kaitlyn would be happy to get more of them too!

I LOVE this stuff and so does my mom.
She buys horizon organic milk and my boys fell in love with it when we visited them. I can’t afford organic milk in the quantities we drink it, but I do buy it from time to time and my kids say, “Oh! this is as good as Grandmother’s milk!”
I wish i could afford to buy it all the time because it is so yummy even I like it!
Mimi- I know, I would love to be able to buy Horizon Organic’s milk all the time instead of the cheapest gallons I can find. But I do think I’ll pick up a few packs of the single serve milks when I can.
I love milk, My favorite is chocolate, Definitely I will buy this one..
This sounds like a super idea. Much better than sugary sodas. Thanks!
Don’t be fooled by the words ‘fresh air’m ‘access to pasture’, ‘herbavour diet’.
Cows are ruminents and are meant to eat grass only. Horizon’s cows are fed grains and I bet they don’t even get outside that much. I’ve read about such operations and their tactics. I’ve heard that Organic Valley is a true animal friendly, grass fed diary. Also beware of the ultra pasturized milk…it canbe toxic to your body! The heat kills most of the nutrients. Better bet? If you want fresh milk, find a local farm and buy raw, preferably, or local pasturized. That way you support your local economy, see where your food comes from, and are probably getting better nutrition. thanks for listening ladies!
