For fans of the original Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoons comes the new 2-disc collection of 14 wacky episodes, compiled into “The Alvinnn!!! Edition“. Yes, I counted, there are three “n”s and three exclamation points in that title
Ross Bagdasarian created an unlikely smash when he changed his name to David Seville, multitracked his own voice, and recorded the novelty single “The Chipmunk Song.” That led to 1961’s The Alvin Show, which gave chipmunks Alvin, Simon, and Theodore animated likenesses, along with their father figure, David Seville.

Bagdasarian passed away in 1972, but in 1979, NBC aired repeats of The Alvin Show on its Saturday morning schedule. Then in 1980, Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., recorded a successful comeback for the Chipmunks, titled Chipmunk Punk. Cashing in on the resurgent popularity of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, NBC brought the all-new animated Alvin and the Chipmunks to the air in 1983. The plots of the cartoons got a little crazier than the original Alvin show, but it was a smash hit that ran for eight seasons on NBC. The DVD compiles 14 of the best episodes into two discs.
The only problem I saw with the format was that the episodes sometimes leave out the opening titles and end credits, substituting black screens in between. But if you are a fan or want to introduce this popular cartoon to your kids, this DVD would be a good way to do that, and it’s available now on Amazon.com.
