Well said about the making mashed potatoes with an electric mixer and with an old fashioned masher. I wanted to make homemade potatoes. I peeled, cut, and boiled the potatoes, drained them, and put them in a bowl.

I’ve tried making mashed potatoes with an electric mixer and with an old fashioned masher. The resulting consistencies are quite different. The old fashioned masher makes them much drier, I can’t think of a word off the top of my head to describe the others, kind of ’sluggy’.
So, now I’ve learnt this I decide which method to use depending on what I’m serving it with.

Jane- I’ve tried it both ways since that disastrous Thanksgiving. I also read in Everyday With Rachael Ray just today that you should actually warm up the butter and milk before adding them to the potatoes. Learning new things every day! lol

I'd also avoid any kind of electric mixer in favor of a good old potato masher. It's more effort, but it doesn't overwork the potatoes and make them sticky and tough. Average Janes last blog post..Average Jane Buys Artwork
