Heroes at Home Wish Registry

One of the things I learned from participating in the Sears “Don’t Just Give A Gift, Give A Wish” campaign (on my blog Table for Five) is that Sears created a “Wish Registry” this year specifically to help the families of military personnel.  The campaign is still going on, and you can still donate money which is used to give gift cards to families that have signed up to receive the donations. The most popular items on the registry are children’s shoes, clothes, and pajamas, which tells you that these families aren’t looking for luxuries, they are looking for help just buying the basics.

Visit the Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry website to read stories from families that have asked for help, and to learn more about giving to the program. Donations are not tax-deductible (I’m not sure why, maybe because Sears isn’t a charity?), but if you have a few dollars to spare, this would be a great way to help someone right here at home. You can also grab a badge to post on your blog, MySpace page, Facebook page, or anywhere else you’d like, that shows that you support the Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry, and you can post a message of support to be read by participants. I’ve got a video you can watch too:

Please consider making a donation to this worthy cause. Thanks.
