Truvia sweetener review

box40_truvia_singleTruvia is an all-natural sweetener made from the Stevia plant. It’s sweetness doesn’t come from being chemically altered, it comes from being nourished through water, sunshine, and soil! The leaves are steeped, much like making tea, that begins the process of capturing rebiana, the best tasting part of the stevia plant. Ultimately, this little leaf gives back a recipe for sweetness that’s both delicious and zero-calorie guilt free.

Truvia has nothing to hide, you can see exactly what it’s made from here. It’s a combination of that rebiana captured from the leaves, erythritol which is a naturally fermented sugar alcohol made from grapes and pears, and natural flavors. The more I learn about natural fruit sugars like erythritol, the better I feel about consuming them.

Truvia looks like sugar, and it tastes like sugar.  I was sent a box from Mom Central, and the first thing I did was open a packet and taste it. There was no weird aftertaste, it just tasted sweet. Then I added it to my morning coffee, and YUM.  The taste is wonderful!  Very clean, just like sugar, really. One packet of Truvia sweetens like 2 teaspoons of sugar. It’s kosher certified, and the FDA has approved it for use in food and beverages, which means you can expect to see “sweetened with Truvia” on things like new soft drinks from Coke and Pepsi in the near future!  Truvia is safe for diabetics and lets you sweeten your food and drinks guilt-free. Try some and I think you’ll like it too!

I’ve been using Stevia to sweeten tea (I’m not much of a coffee drinker) for two or three years now. It’s great!! I’ve tried baking with it a little bit, but I usually end up baking with sugar. I want to try baking with it some more.

I work in the food industry, and this is a huge deal. One of the plants that makes it happens to be in my area, and the region is abuzz with hiring prospects.

I wonder if sweeteners are healthy or not

This sounds too good to be true! I have always disliked artificial sweeteners (both for being non-natural, and for the nasty aftertaste). Will definitely give this one a try, thanks for the info!

I’ve always been of the opinion that calories don’t really matter. I’ve always been more concerned with fat. However, not that I am older and don’t have time to be so active, I’ve started to take calories more into consideration. That being said, I’m equally leery of artificial anything. However, from what you say, it sounds like it is ok to try. Thanks for the post!

Charla- I was wondering if you could bake with Truvia. Maybe they’ll do like what Splenda did and come out with a baking version that’s mixed with sugar for the moistness and browning. I didn’t think anything would replace Splenda for me, but now that I’ve tried the Truvia, I’m switching to that for my coffee.

Corrin- My husband works for Dawn Foods in Jackson, and they haven’t made any plans to start manufacturing anything with Stevia, but I think they should! It’s great to know that manufacturing it is bringing jobs to your area.

My wife and I recently tried Truvia and we did not like it at all. It had a bad taste and a much worse aftertaste.

Interesting that Truvia doesn’t have an aftertaste. I’ve tried Stevia in the past and its always had a slight bitter aftertaste. I wonder how they masked the aftertaste.

I was surfing for a sweetener and founded this one. I don’t know if it is for sale in my country (seems not) but i like that is all natural. And for the taste, i trust you!

Thanks Elizabeth. I’ll give Truvia a shot. I’m a health nut, and I think they would have it at the loval Coop. Always looking for natural ways to make food taste better.

I recently bought Truvia too, and I love it! I found other sweeteners were just too “sweet”, and left a bad aftertaste. This one is mild and not overpowering…it’s a keeper!

I’m puzzled by all the people saying it doesn’t have an after-taste…I sure do detect one. It isn’t bad but would take some getting used to after sugar.
