Only Hearts Club Girls and Li’l Kids Dolls

by Elizabeth on January 23, 2009

The toy industry’s hottest new dolls, the Only Hearts Club™, is a content-based brand of real dolls for real girls that is drawing raves for combining beautiful, real-looking dolls, with content that delivers a much-needed, positive message to girls. Only Hearts Club™ dolls look and dress like real girls, and they deal with the same experiences and issues as well. Most importantly, through a series of books, the Only Hearts Club™ delivers a very positive message and image – namely, that it is good to “listen to your heart and try to do the right thing.”

The Only Hearts Club™ consists of a diverse group of bright, cute and energetic young girls – Taylor Angelique, Karina Grace, Olivia Hope, Briana Joy, Lily Rose, Anna Sophia, Kayla Rae and Hannah Faith – who live in the same community and have formed the Only Hearts Club™ in a bond of true friendship and with a pledge to one another to listen to their hearts and be nice to others. Each of the girls has her own personality and interests, wear age-appropriate clothing based on what girls actually wear, sport hip accessories that are fun and cool and that girls love to play with, while at the same time providing a positive image and message that parents and grandparents want their girls to see and hear.

These interests and personalities are developed further in a series of Only Hearts Club™ books. In each story, one of the girls is faced with a dilemma that requires her to think for herself, listen to her heart, and decide for herself to “do the right thing.” In addition to the books, the Only Hearts Club world consists of playsets, pets, and a new line of ponies, to enhance play and add fun!

I was thrilled to be asked to review these dolls with my 3 year old daughter. I showed her the Only Hearts Club website and asked her which dolls she liked best. She picked Taylor Angelique and Hannah Faith. When the package arrived, we were delighted to find that we had also received the adorable Only Hearts Li’l Kid Christy, as well as six of the adorable tiny Only Hearts Pets dogs. Kaitlyn carries those around in handfuls, and even takes them to bed. At the bottom of the post, you can see Taylor, Hannah, and Melody. Melody is shown in the new Bathroom playset, which we didn’t receive.

Each of the dolls features a soft fabric exterior and poseable limbs. I like that they look more like real girls, without the bizarre out-of-proportion body of other popular dolls. And they are fully clothed, BONUS :P

There are several different “lines” of the dolls, there are the Club dolls which each come with a pet, there are the Fashion dolls, and there are the Theme dolls, the latter two don’t come with a pet. The Theme dolls come with a miniature book that goes along with the outfit, so for example, Briana Joy™ wears a Soccer Outfit and comes with the miniature book, Teamwork Works. These dolls are a great way to encourage a girl’s interests, and help her see that she can have friends with interests different from hers. I just love the whole concept behind these dolls!

The Only Heart Pets are a fun, inexpensive way to indulge my daughter’s love of tiny toys. Target had a large variety of the Pets available this past Christmas in the seasonal section, and in addition to dogs and cats, we found a sheep, a red pig (named Smokey!), a lion, a koala, a frog, and a cow. At $2.99 each, I’ve been adding to our collection a few at a time since Christmas, and I think we almost have all of them now!taylor_club
