Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair

by Elizabeth on March 4, 2009

This is the Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair, which I received from Family Review Network:

pledgesweeper1

It’s a one-piece, handheld, lightweight way to sweep pet hair off of your furniture. There’s a collecting chamber on top, and two roller brushes underneath.

This is our cat, Blackdrop. She lives on the top of our living room couch:

The Fabric Sweeper has arrows on the top to show you which way to move it across furniture. You use short strokes going back and forth, and the brushes pick up the pet hair and deposit it into the collection chamber. I found that it took some extra handling on my part to get the rollers to ‘let go’ of the pet hair, this is what they looked like after my first couple of swipes across the top of the couch:

The directions say to run the rollers over a clean part of the upholstery to get the hair moving into the collection chamber, but I chose to use my fingers to move the rollers, plus I had to pick a few extra-long dog hairs off. This was the collection chamber when I was done:

When the chamber is full, you throw it away. For a retail price of around $5.49, if you have pets, you need to keep one of these on hand. Not only does it make your furniture cleaner, but if someone calls and says hey, I’m on my way over to visit, it’s SO much easier to grab this than to drag out your whole vacuum cleaner hose attachment thingy just to de-fur your couch.

Hmm, interesting little device. Looks like you would go through quite a few of them in your household with dogs and cats. I feel $5.49 is a little much for a disposable cleaning device like this. Aren’t the good old sticky tape rollers just as effective but cheaper?

This really does work better than those sticky tape rollers, the site says one works as well as 145 sticky roller sheets!

Thanks for the great review! I was wondering if this actually worked and now I can buy with confidence! ;o) And send friends home with less pet hair as a free gift ~ LOL

Seems like an interesting product, thanks for the review.

I’ll have to give this a try. We have a cat and dog. (Blackdrop is very cute by the way). I got some sort of lint/pet hair remover from one of those craft shows where I live. I actually never tried it yet. I’ll have to compare. Thanks for your thorough review!

I think the Fur-Zoff works a lot better. Plus, think about it, you’ll probably spend at least $50 a year on these. Fur-Zoff is also reusable, making it a wiser choice both economically and environmentally. I hope this helps some pet owners! They sell Fur-Zoff at http://www.furzoff.net

Would it work on a pair of pants? Sticky rollers never get mine clean enough and I’m always looking for a solution (I already shaved the dogs – no luck).

Thanks!

Thank you very much for the fine review. Our 3 dog rescues; Reggie(Pug),Sasha (Sheppard mix), & Lucie (Dachshund/Chihuahua mix) spend most of the time on our couch (covered with a burgundy couch cover) when they’re not outside.

We’ll have to pick one up!

This thing is said to be disposable, but I just pop out the brushes, empty it, and keep using it. We have two cats and have used it since it came out (same one without replacement)…it beats anything else for quality and price.
