One of the standouts of this collection is “Corduroy”, which is live-action rather than animated. A little girl discovers a stuffed bear in the toy section of a department store and wants very much to buy him, but her mother says no because they have already bought what they came there for and besides, his overalls are missing a button. After the shop closes for the night, Corduroy comes to life and searches for the missing button. The puppetry is old-fashioned and charming, and the little girl actress is natural, not an overly managed “star” kid. I just really enjoyed it a lot.
I couldn’t find this DVD listed in the Scholastic Store on their website, but I did find it on Amazon for $22.49. This is a terrific holiday gift idea for your own kids or someone on your gift list! disclosure: I received this DVD collection at no charge from Scholastic for this review.
