I don’t know if these are available in the U.S., but a company in England makes the most amazing buildings for people to use as garden offices, and I totally want one! The company is called Garden Lodges, and what they do is install factory-built outbuildings in their clients’ backyard gardens. These buildings have electricity and insulation and will generally last as long as a house!
So what do people use them for? The most common use is for a home office. Do you know how badly I would love to be able to pack up all my electronics and product review stuff and move it to another building?? Get my dining room back and have a place to work undisturbed? HEAVEN.
The site says other popular uses for these garden rooms are as a game room, a music studio, a personal gym, and even a fully functional studio apartment with mini-kitchen and bathroom. The gallery page on the site shows examples. I mean, just imagine if “going to the office” meant walking into your backyard and then into THIS:
I’m sure you’re thinking these can’t be cheap, and you’re right. Prices start at around 11,000 pounds, which is currently about $18,000. But, that’s still cheaper than buying a bigger house just to gain the space! Sigh. I’ll just be over here dreaming of having my own garden office now.

YES! Not only is this thing super useful, it’s also gorgeous. Beautiful design. It really would make a great gift for my aunt (the mega green-thumbed diva of the family). Just wish the price point was a little bit lower.
It is a minimalist idea and I also think that very suitable for home based Internet entrepreneurs like me. The price tag is also not that expensive. The problem is I don’t have a garden.. yet
I visited Garden Lodges website and WOW! I have to figure out how they can get a distributor in the USA because I need one for my backyard. It would be nice to have a place like that to work in.

A garden office definitely beats working in a cubicle!
What a beautiful design! I can definitely appreciate the British inspiration for this garden office as gardens play such an integral part of Britain’s design culture. The feasibility for doing this in the states would definitely depend on which part of the country you wanted to build it; rural or suburban areas would be idea as garden space is such a commodity in the city.
