I listed a *few* more gifts for girls than for boys, but I can’t help it! Having a 6 year old daughter means girl toys are pretty much all I see when I shop. But ALL of my picks from the selections available in stores are based on 15 years of being a Mom. I’ve seen hundreds of toys come and go, so when I suggest something, it’s based on what my kids actually played with versus what got buried in the toy box until I gave it to Goodwill.

So that I could see for myself the quality of the toys available, Family Dollar generously sent us two toys from their current selection for review. Kaitlyn was so excited when we opened the box, it was like she got an early Christmas! Inside we found a Fashion Doll with two additional dresses, and three pairs of shoes, and a Pretty Pony Playset with three ponies, a comb and brush, plus 6 plastic barrettes. Kaitlyn was ecstatic.

So far the doll dresses have stood up to repeated wardrobe changes, but the shoes don’t fit very well and rarely stay on. I find that to be true of most doll shoes. The ponies are adorable, Kaitlyn immediately assigned family roles and names to each of them. Considering that these are each only $5.00, I’d say the quality is better than I would expect.
