What You Can Achieve with the Right Tools

I still maintain that the mark of a good school to take your kids through is one which creates an enabling environment which will allow them to discover whatever special talent they may have, whether or not that talent is within what you’d call mainstream career paths to pursue. I mean sure, the one thing that kids go to school to get educated in is in the academic sphere, but we really don’t want to create situations where we batter children and knock their confidence for not excelling in those areas of life they’re not even remotely talented in or built to excel in.

So if your child could perhaps go on to be a Premier League level footballer, I truly believe that talent they harbour should at least be uncovered at school level. How you choose to take it forward, nurture and develop it is then up to you and up to the abilities that you have to do so. Often this just comes from kids being encouraged to participate in all extracurricular activities, even if it’s just to try it out once to see if they may like it or to see if they perhaps don’t have a hidden talent that could never have otherwise been discovered.

This topic was actually sparked by a headache one of my neighbours and fellow moms had as she relayed to me how her little twelve year old son came home one day and so fervently asked for a Canon Eos camera. She knew it would set her back a pretty penny since the son referred to it with its specific name and model, but in truth she could perhaps manage to buy it if she thought of it as an investment in one of the talents her child is clearly depicting.

I endeavoured to encourage her to get the camera for him and even offered to chip in with the little bit that I can, only because I’ve actually seen what the kids can do with the right tools in hand. He’d come second in a national photography competition which was open to all age groups and being only twelve years old I reckon he has a bright future if he were to be given the right equipment. Apparently he’d come into contact with this specific camera he wanted his mom to get for him at school, which belonged to one of the teachers who was kind enough to lend it to him to capture the perfect shot for the national art competition.

So with the right tools you can really go on to achieve great things and sometimes investing in the crafts and talents of our kids will indeed set us back a pretty penny, but we should at least try to get on board. Even if the child does not go on to realise their full potential in the chosen field or craft which cost you pretty penny to nurture, there’s always a lesson to be learned out of the journey.

Either way, you can achieve a lot if you have the right tools at your disposal.
