Happy Mother’s Day!

I’d like to wish a big Happy Mother’s Day to all my Mom Readers! I hope you got to sleep in, or had a special breakfast prepared by your kids, or went out to brunch, or got a nice long nap, or whatever makes you feel special! I got a card and the Juno DVD from Ryan, and a handmade card, bookmark and laminated handprint from Nathan. Plus I got to take a nice looong nap this afternoon! It was a pretty great day.

I also got a surprise when I checked this blog’s Dashboard this morning, an incoming link from Dance of Motherhood. Much to my surprise I found that my longtime blog pal CyberCelt had nominated both MomReviews and Table for Five to the A-List Mom Blogger’s Guild! WOW! And I get to post THIS:

Win Burn Jel, must-have item for burn treatment

Did you know that every 25 seconds, someone in the United States is burned or scalded in their home? Scalds from hot liquids are the leading cause of accidental death in the home for children from birth to age 4 and account for 60 percent of the burn injuries for children up to age 14. The most likely place for children under 4 to be burned is right in their own kitchen.

When a burn occurs, it’s crucial to act quickly. Most of us are probably like me and immediately want to put the burn under cold water. But that just cools the surface, and as the heat from the burn rises, it counteracts the cooling effect of the water, which is just evaporating anyway. Burn Jel is water-based, but acts as a heat exchanger. It also contains Lidocaine for immediate pain relief, and Tea Tree Oil which is naturally antibacterial.

I’ve got ten cartons of Burn Jel to give away, it’s recommended that you keep the bottle right in your kitchen. To be entered to win a carton, please leave a comment on this post. The contest will end on Wednesday, May 21st at 9:00 am EST, when I will draw ten winners at random from all valid comments. I will contact winners directly for their shipping info, then forward it to the sponsor for direct shipping. Please make sure to leave a valid email address with your comment. If you aren’t chosen as a winner, pick up Burn Jel at drugstores like CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and at Wal-Mart.
Good luck!

Jig-A-Loo: Funny name, great product, huge giveaway!

When I was first contacted about doing a product review and giveaway of something called Jig-A-Loo, my first thought was, “what the heck kind of name is that for a product?” So I went to the U.S. website for the international company, and learned the origins of the name:

The name “Jig-A-Loo” can be traced all the way back to 1958, when the product inventor finally came up with the right formula and exclaimed “ti-gi-dou!” This friendly French-Canadian expression is used when someone finds a solution to a problem. “Ti-gi-dou” loosely translates as “I’ve got it!” It’s also sometimes used as a salutation at the end of phone conversations. In the spirit of celebrating this wondrous new invention, a more phonetic version of the inventor’s words was coined, one which included the idea of lubricant (“loo”).

So, what is Jig-A-Loo? It’s an invisible silicon-based household lubricant that unsticks, unsqueaks, doesn’t smell, doesn’t drip, and doesn’t stain. You can spray it on the zipper of a pair of WHITE PANTS and won’t see any drops at all. It unsticks window frames, keeps rust off of tools, takes the squeak out of door hinges, makes shoes waterproof, you can even spray it on the leaves of artificial plants to keep dust off. Spray Jig-A-Loo into the bottom of a candle holder, and the melted candle comes right out. Jig-A-Loo is a safe product for wood, glass, rubber, metal, leather, fabric, and most plastics (spray a small area of a plastic item first to test). What else can you use it on?

Jig-A-Loo lubricates doors, windows, patio doors, shower doors, washer and dryer doors, drawers, locks, curtain rods, ventilation fans, window shutters, rocking chairs, zippers, hide-a-bed mechanisms, clotheslines, and more.

Jig-A-Loo is also an excellent water-repellent for your shoes, boots, suede and leather jackets, windbreakers, snowsuits, and other garments.

Spray Jig-A-Loo on door seals, door locks, washer nozzles, and windshields to prevent them from freezing, or spray on hubcaps to prevent brake-dust residue buildup.

Wow! I’ve got an amazing GRAND PRIZE to give away, thanks to Jig-A-Loo and Fanscape, Inc. One Grand Prize will be awarded, containing:

3 Cans of Jig-A-Loo ($6.50 per can)

Jig-A-Loo t-shirt and hat (no value)

Dancing Vine Tealight Holder ($9.95) from Illuminations

Large Dancing Vine Hurricane ($29.95)

Bellini Scented Tealight Candles (set of 12) ($10.00)

Two Runners-Up will each receive one can of Jig-A-Loo, a t-shirt and a hat.

5 Minutes for Mom having 2 weeks of giveaways!

Two Weeks of Toys - Giveaway Event

I’ve been so busy the last few weeks, I haven’t been stopping by 5 Minutes for Mom, so I’m just now finding out about their 2 weeks of Toy Giveaways! Fortunately, I have until Wednesday, May 7th at 5pm Eastern to leave a comment on the specific posts for the toys I would love to win. I have my eye on the Lego City set, Hasbro’s Martian Matter (Nathan would love this!), the pink Easy Bake Oven (I never bought one for the boys but I know Kaitlyn would LOVE one!), or the Step 2 Canopy Wagon.

They aren’t kidding when they say they are having fourteen days of FUN!

BabySpot-share your baby’s precious moments for free

I’m beta-testing a website called BabySpot, that will give new parents a fun, safe way to share information about their baby with family and friends. It takes just a minute to register on the site, and once it fully launches on June 1st, 2008, the features will include:

  • Create and share photos using fun editing tools
  • Create and share videos
  • Publish a blog/journal
  • Invite friends and family to view private information

I can’t say yet what additional features will be available, but I do know that you will be able to do even more once the site is out of beta on June 1st. Right now, you can join the site for free, then on the My Account tab, fill in your baby’s name, birthdate, height and weight, hair and eye color, and upload a photo. You can also choose a Theme, which is the pattern that appears on your profile page. The Status bar lets you fill in what your child is doing at that moment. At the bottom of the page are boxes to check for making the information public or private.

It’s easy to upload photos, and there is a tool available by clicking the “Help” icon that takes you to Slide, a site that lets you create a slideshow of your pictures. If you’ve been looking for social networking that is just for parents like you, BabySpot is the place you want to be!

Even though my youngest is 2 and a half, I’m still excited about BabySpot. I’ve created a profile for Kaitlyn, uploaded some recent photos of her, and written a short blog post, and it was very easy. It’s like starting a new blog just for info about Kaitlyn, but without having to actually, you know, start a new blog! LOL If you’d like to see what I have so far, this is my URL for the site-
http://www.babyspot.com/uprofile.php?UID=502. To find your URL, go to My Account, and then click the icon of the envelope with the arrow, you will see your URL there.

If you know someone who is due to give birth soon or has just had a baby, let them know about BabySpot. And for more information about the site and it’s creators, visit the About Us page, too. I can’t wait to see what else is going to be available on the site after June 1st!
