Save Money On Books With Affordabook

I LOVE books. I read at least a couple of chapters every single night before going to bed.  What I don’t like is paying full price for books though, which is why I was happy to get this opportunity to review Affordabook.com.  Affordabook is one-stop shopping for school and college textbooks, fiction, nonfiction, NY Times bestsellers, and more. Simply type in the book’s ISBN number, title, author, or even keywords to see the best prices from partner sites like Amazon.com, eBay, Half.com, Alibris, and other booksellers.

One of my favorite book series is Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series, and I’ve been reading them in order from the beginning as I can find them.  Problem is, our library has a very spotty collection, so once in a while I treat myself and buy the next paperback in the series. I did a search on Affordabook by typing “J.D. Robb” into the search bar, and was pleasantly surprised to find they list all twenty books!  The next one in the series I want to read is Origin in Death, so I searched again just for that title and found it for just $4.00 including shipping from Amazon.com! That means I don’t have to wait for a copy to show up at the library!

For those of you with students in college, I can’t even imagine how much you must be spending on textbooks. They were crazy expensive when I went to college and that was…well, a LONG time ago.  Fortunately, Affordabook can save you money on textbooks, too.  I typed “Economics” into the search bar and got a result that appears to be a textbook, it’s just called Economics and published by McGraw-Hill.  I don’t know how much it is at the student bookstore, but Affordabook found a copy on eBay for only $7.63 including shipping!

Whatever kind of books you want to buy, I think it’s worth your time to pop over to Affordabook.com and search there for the absolutely lowest online price before you pay more than you need to!

Campus Book Rentals Supports Operation Smile

Since 1982, Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided more than 2 million patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities. Their team of mobilized medical professionals work in over 60 countries to heal childrens’ smiles.

Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft — often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places these children are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can’t afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life. Thanks to Operation Smile and the generous donations they receive, these children get the surgery they need.

And now, there’s an easy way to donate to Operation Smile and save money on college books, too! Campus Book Rentals has partnered with Operation Smile for their 2011 Make a Difference Program. They have committed to donating enough to cover a minimum of 1,000 life changing surgeries. For EVERY book rented, they will donate a portion of those proceeds to Operation Smile.

So save money on your college books and help Operation Smile, too! Everyone wins!

My Dream House Is A Garden Office

I don’t know if these are available in the U.S., but a company in England makes the most amazing buildings for people to use as garden offices, and I totally want one! The company is called Garden Lodges, and what they do is install factory-built outbuildings in their clients’ backyard gardens.  These buildings have electricity and insulation and will generally last as long as a house!

So what do people use them for? The most common use is for a home office.  Do you know how badly I would love to be able to pack up all my electronics and product review stuff and move it to another building??  Get my dining room back and have a place to work undisturbed? HEAVEN.

The site says other popular uses for these garden rooms are as a game room, a music studio, a personal gym, and even a fully functional studio apartment with mini-kitchen and bathroom.  The gallery page on the site shows examples.  I mean, just imagine if “going to the office” meant walking into your backyard and then into THIS:

I’m sure you’re thinking these can’t be cheap, and you’re right. Prices start at around 11,000 pounds, which is currently about $18,000. But, that’s still cheaper than buying a bigger house just to gain the space!  Sigh. I’ll just be over here dreaming of having my own garden office now.
