Motherly Instincts that Go Beyond Parenting

Sarah Health, Lifestyle

Who would have thought that something like suffering an existential crisis could have some positives to draw from what is otherwise not a nice experience at all? Admittedly as a mother you pretty much don’t have time to wallow in something like an existential crisis you may be going through – taking care of kids of any age is more than a full-time job.

So anyway, one of these “positives” which I drew from my latest mini existential crisis is that of the realisation that the motherly instincts one discovers they have when eone becmes a parent transcnds parenthood. You develop this ability to see things for what they really are, but also for what they can become and that’s what I want to discuss today in a little bit of greater detail.

Safety precautions

When you become a parent and not just a mother the world suddenly becomes this dangerous place with a hazard waiting at every corner. You’re not being paranoid though and you should make full use of the instinct you develop of wanting to ensure the safety of your loved ones and pretty much everyone else you care about.

Intuition

What is ordinarily a positive trait that forms part of our instincts as mothers can sometimes drive us crazy to say the very least, otherwise intui is indeed something that also transcends the world of parenting.

If you take the time to really assess it you’ll realise that in certain moments it’s your experience as a mother that has you making the best decision without seemingly even thinking about it too much. It’s more than just a gut feeling, but perhaps something like an instinct you were born with which was waiting to be activated by childbirth.

The ability to make a plan work or improvise

For as many times as a mother has had to improvise when something happens unexpectedly, when they take this beyond parenthood then it suddenly becomes apparent that you can actually make it work with pretty much any situation you encounter. Plans are good to make of course, but you’ll often find that you’ll end up having to improvise.

The ability to see the bigger picture

This goes back to that ability to see things for what they really are and what they have the potential to become I discussed a little earlier on in this post. I’ll drive the point home with a very simple example of how by design a pair of shoes for LDS missionaries doesn’t have to be confined to people who are doing the work of The Lord. They look good enough to mix and match with lots of different outfits, but are also comfortable and practical to wear as some “working” shoes.

It goes way beyond mere shoes though, with this ability to see the bigger picture often manifesting so naturally that you don’t even realise you’re deploying it.
