Should Parents Trust Non-Hospital Doctors?

Sarah Health

For some people this may seem like a strange question, should parents trust doctors that don’t work specifically in hospitals? But it really is a legitimate question, if you think about all the different ways that you can communicate with doctors these days. In fact, you can get online and find a website that works directly with doctors that will, for a fee, answer any type of medical question you have, without the need to drive to a doctor.

Can you trust these doctors, well to appoint you would think you could. The key is to look at a few factors before going exactly by what that doctor said. It’s the same as using WebMD, for instance, to diagnose your own illness. While online a doctor can give you an idea of what might be wrong with you, simply by your explanation, but to get a true diagnosis it’s really important to actually see someone in person.

Private Practitioners

There really isn’t that much difference between visiting a doctor at the hospital and visiting a private practitioner. In fact, it would make more sense to visit a private practitioner if you don’t have a reason to actually be in the hospital. The hospital should be thought of more for longer stays or bigger health issues.

You’re more likely to find somebody that specifically works with young children in a private practitioner setting. And as a parent, it seems that you would want someone who specializes in childhood medicine rather than someone who is used to working on adults specifically.

Online Doctors

There’s no reason to really distrust online doctors, as they can offer up lots of great information that can help you with the things that ail you. However, you do want to make sure that you aren’t using this as a way to self-diagnose. Instead take what they tell you and take it to an actual doctor’s appointment with you to make sure that there isn’t anything major going on in your health.

One thing to make sure that you do, when using an online doctor, is to check out their credentials. For instance, if you are looking for a skin doctor, you might want to look for their specialization in dermatology. Also, you may also find doctors who have attended Aesthetic Conferences in their specific medical domain, which might also be mentioned in the online profile. If the website doesn’t say anything about what they are a doctor of or anything about their training, then it’s probably a wise choice not to trust them.

Concierge Doctors

There are actually benefits to having a concierge doctor, like being able to be seen quicker than you would sitting in a hospital waiting room. You’ll feel more like you’re getting personal care and one-on-one attention by having your personal concierge doctor right at your fingertips.

Just like with any other doctor, you’ll need to make sure that they take your insurance or that your insurance takes them, for that matter. But aside from that, this type of doctor leaves nothing to distrust.
