Spruce Up the Old Master Bathroom

Sarah Lifestyle

Few things are more cringeworthy than an ugly old bathroom, so sprucing it up is perhaps in order. Instead of staring at photos of gorgeous bathrooms for days on end, get it together and get down to it! Whether you’ve been pondering about changing the color of your walls or installing modern bathroom light fixtures, now is the time to roll up your sleeves. Here are some useful tips for sprucing up that old master bathroom.

1. Start with the fixtures

Fixtures set the tone of a bathroom. You can make it look like a million bucks and still not enjoy the comfort of the stylish bathroom if your sinks, bath and shower are broken or malfunctioning. Luckily, a typical pedestal sink will likely still be in a good shape after even decades of use, so properly cleaning the fixture up will ensure a better flow and will restore it to its heyday shine. Additionally, a leaky faucet and outdated sconces will likely require replacement. These details will both spruce up the old bathroom and make it more functional. If your tub is colored, consider resurfacing it and, if it is dirty, set some time aside for cleaning it up – even if it might seem rusty, chances are that those are merely layers of filth that need taking care of.

2. Spice it up with tiles

Typical square tiles are not the trendies option there is for many years now and how they have managed to still “decorate” the floors and walls of many modern bathrooms is beyond me. This is not to say, however, that tiles in general are a no-go. For example, olive and white 1-by-1-inch hexagonal ones are an excellent choice. Of course, do not use this combo for the floors unless you want your bathroom looking like a complete madhouse – it will hurt your eyes, proverbially, as well as literally!

3. Liven it up

You can breathe in some life into your bathroom by introducing a fun wallpaper, cool curtains and a brand-new ceiling fixture. Do not be scared of trying something a bit daring and fun – these rooms are perfect for experimenting. When it comes to wallpapers, I recommend hiring a pro, as these can be a bit tricky to nail on your own. Of course, always match your colors and always go for soothing ones.

4. Distract

If you aren’t ready for a complete bathroom re-haul that includes tile changing, you can always create a neat distraction. If your tile color is that sickening shade of mint, I suggest you tone it down by going with a black wallpaper with motifs to neutralize the unimpressive tile color (no offense). You might be inclined to match the colors with your current tiles, but, no matter how hard you try, this is only going to emphasize that sickly shade of green even further. If you go for a black wallpaper with motifs, stick to a plain shower curtain – you’ll need to do a lot to remove the accent from your tiles.

5. Storage

Sure, going with IKEA is always an option, but why not try and make your bathroom stand out. A business that specializes in wardrobes in Brisbane takes time, diligently crafting outstanding, quality wardrobes that will make your bathroom look special. Cool wardrobes can also help you in terms of previously mentioned distraction, so opt for quality bathroom storage options.

6. Embrace light

If your bathroom is too dark, there is a simple way of taking care of this: just add a strategically placed mirror and you’ll be amazed at how big a difference this can make. Of course, for the nighttime, the best option is to go for LED lights as they provide lighting that’s as close as possible to the sunlight, while they will also save you a lot of money in the long run!

Start with the fixtures and spice it up with tiles! Liven it up with an interesting wallpaper design. Set aside a bit more money for quality storage options, and use everything at your disposal to bring more light into your old master bathroom!
