Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy

sethmcfarlaneFrom the mind of “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane comes Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy-Uncensored, the hilarious collection of cartoon shorts, available on both DVD and Blu-Ray. Featuring 50 shorts in total, the DVD highlights all-new classic characters, “Family Guy” voice talent and hilarious pop culture parodies of Jesus Christ, Bob Dylan, Ted Nugent, Quentin Tarantino, Super Mario, Jeff Goldbum and more.

The irreverent animated shorts that originally aired on YouTube and SethComedy.com are also included but now completely unedited and uncensored.  Some of the shorts that I found the funniest include a frog convincing Princesses to kiss him, and Wile E. Coyote finally catching the Roadrunner and then having no life.

You should be cautious about having kids in the room when watching this.  There’s a disappointing lack of bonus features, though. You get

  • Red Carpet Piece

Still Galleries:

  • Rough Character Models
  • Cleaned Up Character Models
  • Colored Character Models

Pick this one up for a Seth MacFarlane fan!

Horton Hears a Who DVD Review

horton-hears-a-who I LOVED Horton Hears a Who! when we saw it in the theater, so I was super-excited to get a chance to review it on DVD as well. I received the two-disc special edition with digital copy, and let me tell you, it is totally worth spending a little more to get the second disc.  The movie is, of course, based on Dr. Seuss’ classic 1954 children’s book about an elephant who hears a faint cry for help coming from a dust speck sitting on top of a clover, and has to convince everyone else that the voice he is hearing is real.

horton-castThe voice cast for this movie is unbelievable. Golden Globe® winner Jim Carrey* (How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Bruce Almighty) is Horton, Golden Globe® winner Steve Carell (“The Office,” Get Smart) is the Mayor of Whoville, six-time Emmy® Award winner Carol Burnett (“The Carol Burnett Show”) is the Kangaroo, and actor/singer Jesse McCartney (“TinkerBell”) as JoJo. Other characters are voiced by Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Dan Fogler, Amy Poehler, Isla Fisher, Jonah Hill, and Niecy Nash.  Even more amazing than the voice cast though, is the production of the movie itself. When we saw the movie in the theater, we were blown away by the production quality, and it looks just as good on DVD. There’s a scene at the beginning of the movie where Horton splashes through a creek, and you’d swear you were looking at real water.

The reason I say the two-disc set is worth the purchase is because of the second disc.  How’s this for bonus features? :

Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Alvinnn!!! Edition

For fans of the original Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoons comes the new 2-disc collection of 14 wacky episodes, compiled into “The Alvinnn!!! Edition“. Yes, I counted, there are three “n”s and three exclamation points in that title :)

Ross Bagdasarian created an unlikely smash when he changed his name to David Seville, multitracked his own voice, and recorded the novelty single “The Chipmunk Song.” That led to 1961′s The Alvin Show, which gave chipmunks Alvin, Simon, and Theodore animated likenesses, along with their father figure, David Seville.

Bagdasarian passed away in 1972, but in 1979, NBC aired repeats of The Alvin Show on its Saturday morning schedule. Then in 1980, Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., recorded a successful comeback for the Chipmunks, titled Chipmunk Punk. Cashing in on the resurgent popularity of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, NBC brought the all-new animated Alvin and the Chipmunks to the air in 1983. The plots of the cartoons got a little crazier than the original Alvin show, but it was a smash hit that ran for eight seasons on NBC. The DVD compiles 14 of the best episodes into two discs.

The only problem I saw with the format was that the episodes sometimes leave out the opening titles and end credits, substituting black screens in between. But if you are a fan or want to introduce this popular cartoon to your kids, this DVD would be a good way to do that, and it’s available now on Amazon.com.
