Terrific Toys for Babies and Kids

I’m a big fan of toy website Ebeanstalk, because the toys they carry are carefully selected to match each age and stage of development. Ebeanstalk has child experts  that select the best baby toys matched to a baby’s development. To see great information on how a baby grows up, check out the info on their baby toys page.

Picking toys for a baby is not as simple as it sounds. Here are some quick baby facts:

  • Toys for a newborn baby: A newborn baby is briefly looking at objects and attempting to imitate facial expressions. They can follow objects with their eyes and usually quiet down, when they are picked up.
  • Toys for a three month old: They will enjoy ‘frolic play’, reaching for objects and will repeat enjoyable activities. Believe it or not, they will respond to ‘no’ (about half the time) and will start babbling.
  • Toys for a six month old: They’ll search for hidden objects (object permanence). They’ll reach for themselves in the mirror, play peekaboo, crumple paper, roll from their stomach to their back and even respond to their name.
  • Toys for a nine month old: They are pushing toy cars, playing pat-a-cake and looking for hidden sounds. The baby toys they are playing with are also getting more fun.

Don’t need toys for a baby? No problem! Ebeanstalk has toys matched to the developmental ages of children from age 1 to 7, and for your first purchase from the site, here’s a discount code you can use to save 15% off- TGS345

I’ve personally shopped from Ebeanstalk, and I’ve always been happy with the quality of the toys I’ve bought. Take a look at the site for perfect toys for your baby or child!

Munchkin Diaper Change Travel Kit

diaperchangetrvlkit_lgAs you travel or shop with little ones this Holiday season, the Munchkin Diaper Change Travel Kit is a great product to take along with you. Folded up, it fits in a diaper bag, and unfolds to a generous 22.7″ x 19.5″.  You can even just take it by itself on a quick trip out of the house. The mesh pockets hold two diapers, and it comes with a wipes case that holds standard size wipes. I’d love to show you the one that Marissa from Formula PR sent me for this review, but I have looked everywhere in my house and I can’t find it! I’ve looked in all the diaper bags, on and under the changing table, in our room, the boys’ room, the van-I have no idea where it went! Of course, next month I will find it, in some completely random place.

Munchkin products are available at Target, Wal-Mart, Babies R Us, or you can go to the Munchkin “Where to Buy?” page to find a U.S. retailer near you. The average price is just $12.99, which is wonderfully affordable for this time of year!

Treat serious diaper rash with Vusion ointment

vusion ointmentMy daughter was born with diaper rash. She had red, raw patches on each of her little bum cheeks, and when our pediatrician came to the hospital to examine her, he gave Chris a prescription to fill for a cream made from an antibiotic, hydrocortisone, Desitin, and petroleum jelly. We had to use for about a month before her skin finally healed, and it was so hard on us, knowing how painful it must have been for her. That was in November 2005, and shortly after that, an ointment called Vusion came out. You still have to get a prescription for it, and the ingredients are miconozale nitrate (an antifungal agent), zinc oxide, and petroleum jelly.

Vusion is only for a diagnosis of diaper rash with yeast infection, so if your doctor has diagnosed your baby with that, you can ask about getting a prescription for Vusion. Features include:

* Effective, steroid-free formula, which means no risk of steroid-related side effects
* Clinically tested on babies 4 weeks of age and older
* Only product that’s FDA-approved for diaper rash with yeast infection

Even with Vusion ointment, you will still have to change your baby’s diaper very frequently, because even a small amount of wetness can irritate the rash. We had to change Kaitlyn about every two hours round the clock for the first few weeks, but it was worth it to see her skin start healing. We weren’t using Vusion because her rash was not complicated by a yeast infection fortunately. But I can tell you for sure that if it doesn’t look like ordinary diaper rash, get your baby to the doctor right away and get it checked out, because serious diaper rash needs to get treated immediately.
