My daughter was born with diaper rash. She had red, raw patches on each of her little bum cheeks, and when our pediatrician came to the hospital to examine her, he gave Chris a prescription to fill for a cream made from an antibiotic, hydrocortisone, Desitin, and petroleum jelly. We had to use for about a month before her skin finally healed, and it was so hard on us, knowing how painful it must have been for her. That was in November 2005, and shortly after that, an ointment called Vusion came out. You still have to get a prescription for it, and the ingredients are miconozale nitrate (an antifungal agent), zinc oxide, and petroleum jelly.

Vusion is only for a diagnosis of diaper rash with yeast infection, so if your doctor has diagnosed your baby with that, you can ask about getting a prescription for Vusion. Features include:

Even with Vusion ointment, you will still have to change your baby’s diaper very frequently, because even a small amount of wetness can irritate the rash. We had to change Kaitlyn about every two hours round the clock for the first few weeks, but it was worth it to see her skin start healing. We weren’t using Vusion because her rash was not complicated by a yeast infection fortunately. But I can tell you for sure that if it doesn’t look like ordinary diaper rash, get your baby to the doctor right away and get it checked out, because serious diaper rash needs to get treated immediately.
