Disposable Biodegradeable Earth Friendly Strainees

Haion Won, President and CEO of Dansa LLC had an idea – to use corn starch to create strainers for bathtubs, sinks, and showers. You know, those metal things with holes that keep big wads of hair from clogging up your pipes.  With Strainees, bathtubs and shower drains don’t clog with hair and sink strainers are clean and free from food particles, and the Strainees themselves fully biodegrade within five months.

If your metal strainer gets rusty or too clogged to clean, you have to throw it out. Strainees go right into your compost pile where the corn starch completely breaks down with no toxins.  Mr. Won was awarded the “Most Eco Friendly” award for Strainees by the United Inventors Association.

To purchase Strainees, go to Dansa LLC, the online home goods site. A package of Strainees costs between $1.13 and $1.50.  I think Strainees are a good idea, especially for people concerned about how much they throw away.

MicroDry Bath Mats

MicroDry mat

Add a little magic to your morning with MicroDry! MicroDry is a luxuriously soft, super absorbent new fabric that absorbs water twice as fast as other materials, and it makes up the top fabric of the MicroDry Bath Mat. Filled with memory foam, it cushions your feet and feels wonderfully soft and comfortable while you dry off from your bath or shower.

MicroDry sent me a bath mat to try, in chocolate brown, which coordinates just fine with my bathroom. I love how comfortable it is to stand on, I wish I could have an entire carpet made of memory foam! The fact sheet that came with my mat explains that while MicroDry absorbs water two times faster than other fabrics, it also dries out 50% faster than other fabrics. And while other fabrics have to be washed a few times before they reach full absorbency, MicroDry is fully absorbent right away. And yet, it requires no special washing instructions.

Here’s the best part – MicroDry bath mats are super affordable! Available at Bed, Bath & Beyond, the mats come in four colors and two sizes. The smaller mat is $19.99 and the larger mat is $29.99. You deserve a little luxury, so swap out that towel you’ve been standing on and pick up a MicroDry bath mat! You’ll be glad you did :)

disclosure: I received a MicroDry bath mat for this review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

Unique furniture for your Bathroom

We are fortunate to have two bathrooms, one that was supposed to be for the boys and Chris, and one that was supposed to be for me and Kaitlyn. I use my bathroom shelves to store all my hair and skin products, makeup, hairdryer, etc., but I never use the shower and rarely use the toilet. Why? Well partly because the water pressure going to that bathroom is so bad, that showering is like having a garden hose trickled over your head, and the toilet, well, it’s not good to use it too much since it barely has any water going into it.

Also, the sink is marble on top which is nice, but the previous owners left a big sticker on it with the cleaning instructions that won’t come off without scratching the marble. And the faucet handles are clear acrylic but over the decades, mildew has built up in them and I can’t clean them out. I know. Eww.

So, I’ve been browsing sites looking at new Bathroom Suites. A “suite” refers to a complete collection for the bathroom- bathtub, toilet, sink, faucets, and the tap handles. If we could fix the problem with the pipes and actually get the water pressure up, I would definitely want to do some remodeling. A site like betterbathrooms.com would be a great way to start, to give me design ideas. I’m sure a lot has changed in bathroom furniture since this house was built in 1959, which is when I’m pretty sure the existing sink, tub, and toilet were purchased.

What about you, readers? Are you planning any remodeling projects this Spring or Summer?
