New from Candlewick Press – Flanimals

Every book I’ve reviewed from Candlewick Press has been terrific, and this newest one is no exception. Introducing Flanimals by Ricky Gervais!  You might recognize the name Ricky Gervais because he’s the creator of the original show “The Office”, and has acted in films like “Ghost Town” and “The Invention of Lying”. But did you know that Ricky Gervais is also a children’s book author? I didn’t!  The book I received for review is called Flanimals Pop-Up, plus Amazon.com lists five other books in the Flanimals series! So, what are Flanimals?

Gervais describes Flanimals thusly: “Flanimals range from Sprengled Humpdumblers to Oyngless Larbs, from Spuzz Gups to Helm Grindlers. They are all useless and pointless.” Maybe so, but kids will giggle trying to pronounce the names, and will have fun watching each creature spring up from the page. In addition to the pop-up, the pages have smaller squares on each bottom corner that open up to reveal more fun info.

The book is suggested for ages 5 and up,  and to me, it’s a great family book for any age. Put it on your coffee table and watch the reactions you get from kids of all ages! Current Amazon.com price – $13.59.

disclosure: I received a copy of Flanimals from Candlewick Press. All opinions in this post are mine.
