Holiday Gift Guide Update

How many weeks until Christmas? TEN! Exactly Ten weeks from today is December 25th! That means it’s time to start shopping for gifts!  The response to my request for products to list in my Holiday Gift Guide for Tweens and Teens has been unbelievable. I thought it was hard to find cool gifts for kids ages 10 and up but there is SO MUCH out there! Because I’ve had so many requests, here’s what I’m going to do:

On this blog I’ll be posting reviews of products we’ve personally tested, for Moms, Dads, and kids of all ages, with the category “Holiday Gift Guide”. Categories are searchable from the sidebar. If a product is specifically aimed at ages 10 and up (tweens are 10-12 like my son Nathan), I’ll add a link to the post on the Holiday Gift Guide for Tweens and Teens page you see here in the nav bar. That way even when the post drops off the main page, you’ll still be able to see my reviews and suggestions.

For products I find online and think would make a cool gift but will not be reviewing personally, I’ll be posting a page of links on the URL http://tweenteengifts.momreviews.net.  This is my way of helping my readers who have tweens or teens to shop for find the hottest gifts this holiday season. The page of links goes live on November 2nd with additional links added December 4th.

My goal for this holiday season is to help my readers get their holiday shopping done and find ideas for gifts for everyone on their list! I’ll be holding giveaways too, so if you don’t already subscribe, this would be a great time to Subscribe to MomReviews.net :)

Grandparent Talk-perfect game for holiday gatherings

grandparent talk game During this upcoming holiday season, many of us will spend time with our parents and grandparents. It can be so hard to have time to just sit and talk these days, with everyone’s schedules so busy. Even my parents are hard to spend time with, they have busier schedules than I do! But while we are visiting this Thanksgiving, I’ve got the perfect way to “break the ice” and get us all talking- the Grandparent Talk game from Around The Table Games.

Grandparent Talk is 100 cards held together with a sturdy clip, and on each card is a question designed to get Grandparents talking about their lives. Grandparent Talk is designed to help deepen intergenerational relationships among family members and keep family history alive. Children might be surprised at how much they have in common with their Grandparents. Here are sample questions:

  • What kind of toys did you have?
  • What kinds of pets did you have? What were their names?
  • What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you?

Here’s a link to Retail Locations where you can buy Grandparent Talk and other Around the Table Games like Family Talk and Family Talk 2.   This game would be an excellent gift for Grandparents or a purchase to make to keep around the house for when Grandparents visit (or if you are a Grandparent, for when the Grandkids visit). You might even want to videotape the answers to the questions for a video family history!

Compare prices and save money with SHOP.com

We’re all stretching our dollars further and further, and Christmas shopping shouldn’t be the exception. You can find just the items you are looking for at the best prices possible by using comparison shopping site SHOP.com. It’s so easy to use, too.

Nathan has been asking for one thing over and over for Christmas, and that’s an Automoblox car. I went to SHOP.com and typed in Automoblox in the search bar, and got 27 matches. I sorted the matches by price: lowest to highest, and found the exact Automoblox Sports Car that Nathan wants, from a site called Flaghouse.

Now, what makes SHOP.com the most useful is their OneCart checkout. You can fill your shopping cart with items from different sites, and just make one payment for everything. That is so handy! If you don’t have a specific item in mind, you can use the Categories at the top of the site to browse departments, or look along the left side of the page for more links and buying guides.

Oh, and there’s a Music Shop where you can listen to music before you buy it! Very cool.  There are a few changes I would love to see, like having toddler and older kids’ clothes and shoes be in separate sections, or being able to search for toys by age, but for the most part, this site is very helpful and I highly recommend you look up whatever you have on your gift list on SHOP.com first before spending more money somewhere else!
