Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download on March 30th, 2010 – that’s next Tuesday! The Double DVD Pack includes “The Squeak Along” Bonus Disc, with More Munk Mayhem (cute!) and all-new singalongs, and it retails for $34.98. BUT, you  can buy it now on Amazon.com for $22.99, select Two-Day shipping at checkout, and get it delivered on March 30!

Description: When a concert mishap lands Dave in the hospital, the Chipmunks take a break from superstardom and enroll in school to fit in with kids their age. But they soon face some stiff competition when they meet the Chipettes — a beautiful, talented trio of chipmunks discovered by Ian, the boys’ evil ex-manager! We liked the first movie, but didn’t get a chance to see this one in the theaters, so I’ve already promised we’ll pick it up next week. Kaitlyn begged me for a Chipette beanie doll at Blockbuster about a month ago, and she wants to see the movie because she thinks the Chipettes are cool!

At http://www.munkyourself.com, you can have fun customizing your own boy or girl Chipmunk character – play around with hairstyles, hats, glasses, clothes and shoes, then hear your character say a line from the movie. My 4 year old daughter had a lot of fun with this! Here’s her creation, with a movie sound clip I chose because it perfectly describes how I feel some days :)

MunkYourself.com also has videos including a dance lesson and clips from the movie, a page to get to know the characters, a “munk mic” (I don’t have a mic on my laptop but I assume it lets you hear what you sound like as a chipmunk), a gallery of images, and a mobile page with wallpapers, ringtones, videos, and an iPhone and iPod touch app. You can take the Chipmunks anywhere!

Did you see Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel in the theater? Did you/your kids love it? If you want to own the movie on Blu-ray or DVD, pick it up next week, and in the meantime, visit http://www.foxfamilyflicks.com for more Chipmunk fun!

Greek Chapter Four on DVD

If you aren’t watching Greek on ABC Family, you are missing out on a well-written, well-acted comedy-slash-drama featuring great storylines and terrific actors. While it’s called Chapter Four, these episodes were actually the second half of season 2, and the tensions and romance don’t let up for a minute.

Sorority leader Casey (Spencer Grammer) finds herself torn between solid and decent Max (Michael Rady) and the slacker, live-for-the-moment Cappie (Scott Michael Foster). Rusty (Jacob Zachar), Casey’s geeky younger brother, falls for transfer student Jordan (Johanna Braddy), but she hooks up with new Kappa Tau pledge Andy (Jesse McCartney). Ashleigh (Amber Stevens) unsteadily wears the crown of ZBZ president, while nemesis Frannie (Tiffany Dupont) steps up her efforts to undermine her former sorority house. Evan (Jake McDorman) gives up his multimillion-dollar trust fund, while fundamentalist purity pledger Dale (Clark Duke) finds himself the object of a cougar realtor’s lust.  Dale and Calvin (Paul James)  become friends, and Cappie and Evan are  both recruited to join the school’s secret society.  And, Janeane Garafalo and Dan Castellaneta guest star as CRU professors.  Whew!

DVD Bonus Features:

  • “At World’s End” -  The cast and the writers and producers talk about the episode and reveal how they would spend their last 24 hours on Earth.  Clark Duke and Paul James steal the segment with a presumably obscene(and  bleeped out) response to the question of what they would do, it apparently involves cast member Dilshad Vadsaria (Rebecca).
  • Blooper Reel
  • Music Video: “How Do You Sleep?” By Jesse  McCartney

Here’s a clip of Casey asking Rebecca for advice on whether they should let some former sorority members rejoin:

You can watch all the episodes of Greek for free on Hulu, at http://www.hulu.com/greek.  Pick up the DVD for $26.99 on Amazon.com.

disclosure: ABC Family provided me with a copy of this DVD to facilitate my review. No other compensation was received.

LeapFrog: Math Adventure to the Moon

Join Tad and Lily as they blast off on an exciting educational adventure in LeapFrog Math Adventure to the Moon
Tad and Lily need the perfect collection of things to take to school for their math assignment. When they finally decide on moon rocks, there’s just one problem—how will they get them? With some magical help from their firefly friend Edison, they board a rocket ship to start their quest. Soon the twins learn that math is everywhere, even in outer space! Watch as they use their skills in counting, sorting, skip counting and recognizing patterns to overcome obstacles, find new friends and make the trip back to Earth!

My four year old loves LeapFrog, so she was a very willing reviewer for this DVD, which will be released this Tuesday, Feb. 23rd.  After we watched it together the first time, she immediately asked to watch it again. I just asked her what she liked best about LeapFrog Math Adventure to the Moon, and she said: “I liked helping count down before they took off really fast!”

Since Kaitlyn has already mastered the alphabet, I’ve been paying a lot more attention to opportunities to teach her math in a fun way.  One thing I really like about this DVD is that it touches on skip counting, which both my boys learned starting in second grade as a way to start learning multiplication. I appreciated that this DVD included skip counting along with counting, sorting, and matching shape patterns.

The suggested price for LeapFrog Math Adventure to the Moon is $14.98; or use either of the links in this post to order it from Amazon.com for $9.99. It’s eligible for free shipping too. The links in this post are from my Amazon Associates account, so if you do make the purchase, I earn a small commission (disclosure, blahblahblah). It really is a cute DVD!
