Jack and the Beanstalk on DVD

Avalon Family Entertainment presents Jack and the Beanstalk on DVD. This production  revisits and modernizes  the classic tale, with  performances by actors Gilbert Godfried, Chevy Chase, Christopher Lloyd, Katey Sagal, Wallace Shawn, Chloe Grace Moretz, Colin Ford, and the voice of James Earl Jones.

Jack (Colin Ford), a young boy in fairy tale school, must preform his first heroic deed soon, or he’ll fail his class. To succeed, he sells his C.O.W (Computer of Wonder) for magic beans. His mother (Katey Sagal) is understandably upset by this decision. Jack plants the beans, and overnight, the huge beanstalk grows.  Desperate to be a hero, he climbs the beanstalk into a dangerous and magical land. With the help of some friends, he learns the true meaning of being a hero on his adventure!

My kids and I really enjoyed this DVD. We were familiar with the fairy tale, so it was fun to see how it was made more modern. It held our attention and earned two repeat viewings!  Look for this new version of Jack and the Beanstalk where DVDs are sold and on Amazon.com.

Noonbory & the Super 7 – They’re Sense-ational!

Noonbory & the Super Seven: They’re Sense-ational! is a recent release from NCircle Entertainment. When trouble is brewing or super silly villainy is taking place in the whimsical word of Toobalooba, it’s up to Noonbury and his sensational team of super sensing problem solvers to save the day!

Noonbory and his six “bory” friends each have a super sense –  including sight, sound, taste, touch, smell, common sense and nonsense.  In the four episodes on this DVD, they work together to solve simple problems that preschoolers will be able to relate to.  Kids will see the borys sharing, helping, and learning about patience and teamwork in the four episodes: Luky’s Bubble Trouble, A Honey of a Tale, Problem Peach, and A Rosy Day.

My daughter watches this one regularly, her favorite is Lunabory. Even my boys admit they’ve paid enough attention to it to know which character is which. A great DVD and not at all expensive – just $6.99 on Amazon.com, also available at Toys ‘R’ Us. Check it out for yourself!

NCircle Entertainment regularly sends me new titles for review. This does not affect my opinion.

Funky KidzFunky Kidz is a CD of familiar kids’ songs with a New Orleans funky-jazz twist. Artists include Ivan Neville of the Neville Brothers; The Radiators; George Porter Jr. of The Meters; and Bonerama. What I love about this CD is how these familiar songs have been jazzed up to appeal to both kids and adults. You can definitely here the New Orleans influence in the songs. Our favorite tracks are Papa Grows Funk’s version of The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine”, Theresa Andersson’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, and Amanda Shaw’s version of “Garden Song”. You’ll listen to this one even when the kids aren’t around! $13.99 + S&H from Funky Kidz Music.
