I feel better when I eat more fiber. I used to have a lot of digestive problems until I started paying attention to food labels and choosing foods with more grams of fiber per serving. I was already eating Fiber One cereals (Honey Clusters are my fave!), and then I saw that Hungry Girl gave her thumbs up to Fiber One Yogurt. There are two types of fiber, the first is the insoluble type that your Grandma called “roughage”, which is found in dark leafy green vegetables, whole wheat flour, bran, and the skins of fruit and root vegetables. The second type is soluble fiber, which mixes with the water in your intestines and forms a gel-like substance that is slows down how long it takes your stomach to empty, letting sugars be absorbed more slowly.
Fiber One Yogurt contains 5 grams of soluble fiber in a 4 ounce cup, making it a sweet way to get 5 of the 25-30 grams of fiber we should each get every day. There are only 50 calories per serving and zero fat grams as well. Thanks to MyBlogSpark, I received a coupon to purchase a four-pack of the yogurt plus a “Healthy & Fit Weight Management” kit that included an insulated lunch tote, a divided bowl with a built in fork and spoon, and a large plastic cup with a lid. I’ll be giving three of those away!
DID WE LIKE IT? I bought the Strawberry because that’s Kaitlyn’s favorite flavor, and I also paid out of pocket for a four-pack of the Vanilla, which is what Ryan likes. Both yogurts have a creamy texture, and the Strawberry has bits of fruit added. It’s also artificially colored. The flavor is very, very sweet, I enjoyed it more mixed with Grape Nuts than I did eating it plain. There’s also Peach, and a Key Lime Pie flavor which I’ve read in other reviews is very good and more tangy. But just because it’s only 50 calories doesn’t mean you should eat the whole four-pack. That 5 grams of fiber will really fill you up and can cause some, ahem, discomfort until your body gets used to getting more fiber. If you know you need more fiber in your diet, this is one food that can help you get it!
