Help Save the Children through Frigidaire and Make Time for Change

In 2009, I had the honor of being chosen by Frigidaire through a MomCentral campaign to be on Team Fridge and receive a new Frigidaire Gallery Series refrigerator.  In those two years, we have enjoyed every feature of it, from the water dispenser to the cubed or crushed ice dispenser to the huge fresh food bins and the adjustable shelves.  I’m even eating more produce because the clear bins make it easy for the apples and grapes to catch my eye when I open the door.

Which is why I was thrilled to get a package in the mail yesterday from Frigidaire letting me know about their newest campaign that encourages families to eat more fresh foods, and helps Save the Children U.S. at the same time.  Two days ago on June 9th, Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner joined parents and kids for a day on the farm at the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, NY.   Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner are inviting families everywhere to enjoy summer’s bounty with great recipes and tips for using fresh-picked ingredients.

“I’m a huge fan and avid supporter of my local Farmers Market,” said Garner. “Showing kids how foods go from farm to table is an important first step in creating healthy eating habits. The Frigidaire Summer School is a great way to educate kids and their parents about the importance of eating fresh.”

The other very important reason that Frigidaire is running this campaign right now is to help the children’s charity Save the Children, who, from what I understand, trains health workers here in the U.S. to educate families about healthy behaviors, and diagnose and treat common childhood infections. Frigidaire will donate $1 to Save the Children’s U.S. programs for each day you check-in at your local Farmer’s Market via Gowalla, OR commit to eating fresh at MakeTimeforChange.com, between 6/9/11 and 9/20/11, up to $40,000. That’s awesome!

Frigidaire sent me a huge eco-friendly tote made of jute from www.greengirlworld.com that says “BYOB – Bring Your Own Bag”, and a $25 AmEx gift card to spend at the Farmer’s Market. I was hoping to be able to check in on Gowalla too, but I searched the Farmer’s Market locator MakeTimeForChange.com and there aren’t ANY in Lansing that are on Gowalla. I’m still going to use it on produce, and I’ll get the $1 donation to Save the Children by committing to eat fresh on the site.

Please take a minute and visit MakeTimeforChange.com and pledge to eat fresh this summer! I’m very happy to be sharing this info with you as a member of “Team Fridge” :) Follow along with all of our tweets using hashtag #FrigidaireMoms.

One last post about my Fridge

My husband told me I needed to write one more post about how much we love our Frigidaire refrigerator! Last weekend, he emptied it out to wash all the shelves. The shelves and bins are easy to remove, and washed right up with a little warm water and dish soap. The adjustable hooks on the back of the shelves make it easy to raise or lower to accomodate different size containers, and the bright interior and light mean we have yet to discover “mystery food” hiding in the back.

We all love the ice and water dispenser, the shelf that’s deep enough to hold three gallons of milk at once, the rack on the door for pop cans or small bottles, and the wine (or two-liter pop bottle) holder. Without any hesitation, I can say with all confidence that if you are in the market for a new refrigerator, the Frigidaire Gallery series is worth the price.

Holiday Gift Guide- Frigidaire Gallery Series

Some years, Chris and I buy each other a few small gifts, and some years we buy something big and consider it a “family gift”, like the year we had to buy a new dryer in November. As a member of Team Fridge for Frigidaire, my suggestion to anyone thinking about making a big purchase and considering it this year’s gift is to take a look at the Gallery Series from Frigidaire. Who says a new refrigerator, washer/dryer, stove, or dishwasher can’t be a Christmas present?!

I love, love, LOVE the refrigerator I was sent to review by Frigidaire, through a campaign organized by MomCentral. We had a tiny fridge with a horrible shelf layout that made it hard to see all the way to the back of the shelves, so we were constantly throwing out spoiled food. Our new fridge has clear shelves and a bright interior that make it easy to see what’s on every shelf.  The best part? The tallest shelf is big enough to hold THREE gallons of milk!  No more running up to the convenience store every other day, now I only have to go every four days :)

Besides getting the fridge to keep, my only other obligation to Frigidaire was to write a few posts sharing my honest opinion. I’m not getting paid nor will I receive anything else for this. With that in mind, I’m telling you, treat yourself to an energy-efficient, space-saving, air-filtered, ice-and-water-dispensing Frigidaire Gallery Series refrigerator for Christmas!  Think of it as a gift that will keep on giving, month after month!
