Holiday Gift Guide: Tenzi- The World’s Fastest Dice Game

Looking for a stocking stuffer for a game lover? Tenzi is the dice game that is fun for all ages! Forty dice are packaged in a tube, and the basic rules are simple – up to four players each choose a color of dice, someone says “Go”, and everyone starts rolling their dice, trying to get all ten to show the same number. Everyone rolls at the same time, and the first person to get the same number showing on all ten dice yells “Tenzi!” and they win!

Tenzi comes with instructions for how to play the basic game as well as rules for more ways to play, like trying to get five dice of one number and five of another (“Splitzi”), on teams,  stacking the dice in a tower, and more.  What I like most about Tenzi is that it’s adaptable to different ages. My daughter is six, and while she has fun rolling to try to get ten, we’ve also used the Tenzi dice to do counting and math as well.  This video shows groups of different ages playing “Tenzi Frenzy”, and they all look like they are having a blast!

Tenzi would be a great stocking stuffer as well as a great game to have on hand to entertain groups of all ages.  Buy Tenzi for $14.95 (not including tax and shipping) on their website.

Hasbro’s Elefun & Friends Games- Scatterpillar Scramble and Giraffalaff Limbo

Hasbro has a new collection of five games called Elefun & Friends for younger kids, and sent us two of them for review. We’ve been having so much fun playing Scatterpillar Scramble and Giraffalaff Limbo! Either or both of these would be a terrific holiday gift!

Scatterpillar Scramble Giraffalaff

Scatterpillar Scramble looks easy enough when you first take it out of the box.  Using a pair of plastic tongs, pick up a colored ball and place it in one of his outstretched hands. But then you put in the batteries and turn him on, and Scatterpillar starts dancing, and wiggling, and getting the balls into his hands gets a whole lot harder!  Even my 13 year old said it was fun trying to pick up the balls with the tongs and get them onto his hands. Includes Scatterpillar body, base, 36 colored marbles, 4 tongs, label sheet and instructions. Requires 3 AA batteries (not included). For 2 to 4 players ages 4 and up. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD-Small Parts. Not For Children Under 3 Years. Price: $19.99. Available from HasbroToyShop.com or in stores.

ScatterpillarBody

Giraffalaff Limbo is the hilarious bend over backwards game! Assemble the green support poles, clip on the leaves, and hang Giraffalaff’s bar from the highest set of leaves. The spinner says which of 6 moves to use to get underneath him without knocking him down- classic limbo, crab walk, crawl, giraffe walk, bend forward or backward. As you limbo, you’ll hear steel drum-type music. Knock Giraffalaff down and he erupts into hilarious giggles! Includes Giraffalaff plaque with 2 clips, 3 foam tubes, electronic module with support tube, 8 leaf bar supports, two 3-piece limbo poles, two bases, spinner and instructions. Assembly required. Requires 2 C batteries (not included). For 2 or more players ages 3 and up. Price: $27.99 Available from HasbroToyShop.com or in stores.

Holiday Gift Guide- Boom Blox Bash Party for Wii

BoomBloxBashI know that the original Boom Blox game was a big hit for Nintendo when the Wii first came out, but I had never played it. Now that I’ve played the follow-up game, Boom Blox Bash Party, I can see why it was so popular!  This game is TOTALLY ADDICTIVE!  It seems like such a simple concept, use the WiiMote to “throw” a ball at stacked blocks and try to knock them all down in the fewest number of throws, but it’s not that easy!  In this game, there are more than FOUR HUNDRED single and multiplayer levels, and you have to use all your powers of deduction to figure out how to successfully clear each level.

And, the towers of blocks aren’t just ordinary blocks, either. There are Virus Blox that cause a chain reaction and “infect” all the blocks in their path, Chemical Blox that explode when they touch each other, and purple Vanish Blox that just disappear when hit, causing the blocks on top to fall down.  With the ability to move the camera angle almost all the way around, you just figure out a strategy and let the WiiMote fly, hoping you are aiming at the right spot!

Boom Blox Bash Party is an affordable option as far as Wii games go, at only $27.99 on Amazon. It’s a great holiday gift idea!
