Even spammers make a good point sometimes

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by User ImageElizabeth (Who am I?) on 08-01-2008

I got a comment on my post about how cold my house is from someone whose parents apparently named him “Texas Defensive Driving”. Man, that must have gotten him teased a LOT in school, huh?

He asked why I didn’t just close the door to the playroom with the badly sealed window to keep the cold air from spreading through the house. Great question, Tex. I should have mentioned in that post that we live in a ranch-style house, which means that the only rooms that have doors are the bedrooms and bathrooms. Otherwise, the living room and dining room lead into the kitchen through a, well, cut-out space in the wall, but with no door. Then from the living room there’s another cut-out that goes down a hallway that leads directly into the playroom. No doors.

And yes, Tex, we should take care of getting the window sealed. It’s an extra-large, double picture window, and the window company that gave us an estimate when we first moved in said that particular brand of window is no longer manufactured, so we would have to have an entire window and frame custom-made to fit the space. It will cost at least $650.00, possibly more now that two years have gone by. For now, we’ll just have to be cold. But thanks for your concern!

Brrrr! I need some heat!

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by User ImageElizabeth (Who am I?) on 29-12-2007

Tagged Under : House & Home

Thanks to the four inches of snow that fell yesterday, I am typing this with freezing cold fingers while wearing sweats and huddling under a heavy blanket. Our heat is turned on to a respectable 68 degrees, but the problem is that the large picture window in our back room has bad seals, and the cold air just seeps right on in. What we really need in that room is some kind of extra heat.

I was thinking about getting a wall heater like we have for the boys’ room, but the problem with that is that the back room is so much bigger, that the heat generated by a wall heater just wouldn’t warm the whole room. I really wish the room had a fireplace, not because I would want to light an actual fire, but because we could get vent free gas logs, which don’t use actual flame but put out an impressive amount of heat. Plus, they look nice. I’m hoping that some day we can get that window fixed and remodel that room, and get some more freaking heat back there!

Creative Baby Shower Gifts

Filed Under (Family, Websites) by User ImageElizabeth (Who am I?) on 30-10-2007

One thing that many women forget to plan for when they are having a baby is what they are going to wear after the baby is born, especially if they plan to breastfeed. It is possible to wear stylish, hip, even sexy clothing that also allows for easy nursing, and one site that sells just that kind of clothing is NursingPJs.com.

Sure, the maternity ward at the hospital will provide the new mother with a nursing gown, but they are UGLY. A great gift for an expectant mother would be a pretty set of nursing pajamas to take to the hospital. It’s so much nicer to be in your own clothes, instead of a huge flowered hospital gown. NursingPJs.com sells a pretty gown called The Rebecca Nursing Nightgown which comes in three different colors and five different sizes. It looks nice, too. Check out NursingPJs.com for other stylish yet functional nursing clothing for expecting and new mothers.

additional info: With a flight tracker, you can easily track an incoming or departing flight. Inquire about cheap flights through your airlines. To reduce the cost of your trip even more, search for 5 star discount hotels. If you’re looking for a creative baby shower idea, plan a party at the finest miami resorts. The best gifts would be great vacation deals that include cheap car rental.

Personalized everything

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by User ImageElizabeth (Who am I?) on 27-10-2007

My neighbor across the street is one of those people that always has to do more than everyone else. If one person on our block decorates their porch with pumpkins and little scarecrow figures, then she has to buy a new personalized doormat with bats and jack o lanterns on it, an inflatable ghost for her front yard, and orange lights to wrap around her tree. If you ask me, it’s overkill. I can’t wait to see the giant inflatable turkey she’s sure to have for Thanksgiving.

I’ve been noticing that my neighbors are replacing the traditional plain black numbers next to their front doors with personalized address plaques, too. I found a site called Roland’s Housewarming Gifts that sells them in a variety of materials including metal, ceramic, slate, plus ones that are illuminated by small lights. That would make a nice housewarming gift for someone, wouldn’t it?

And then there are the personalized house signs. Why use a thin metal sign you bought at Wal-Mart to tell people to “Beware of Dog” or “No Trespassing”, when you can get a molded aluminum sign in different colors and scripts? There are so many ways to dress up the outside of your house and personalize it. Giant inflatable turkeys are, of course, optional.
