What are palladium rings?

Palladium rings are fairly new to the wedding bands market. In fact in the past five years they have really picked up some popularity. They are a great alternative to platinum. In fact the price of a palladium ring versus the price of a platinum ring is about 65 percent less. This makes having a quality white metal ring much more affordable for a lot of people. Palladium rings are very similar in weight to 14 karat white gold rings. The benefit of palladium over white gold is that palladium is naturally white and will not fade back to yellow over time.

There aren’t too many other white alternatives. There is a new one called cobalt chrome. Cobalt chrome rings are very similar to palladium in color. The problem with cobalt chrome is they can’t be resized more than one full size. This makes any weight change difficult to deal with because your fingers usually change when your weight changes. So you may go up or down in size and have a hard time with a non precious metal band. So a palladium ring is a great choice for his or her wedding band.

Holiday Gift Guide-Reclaimed Glass Jewelry

I was totally blown away when I got the email from Laura Bergman suggesting her Bottled Up Designs jewelry for a Holiday Gift Guide post.  Laura’s recycled glass jewelry is handmade in Pennsylvania from antique glass and bottles reclaimed from natural wooded habitats and rural farmlands.  She turns old Coke, whiskey, beer, wine, milk, Depression glass and more into the most unique jewelry I’ve ever seen.  I’m having trouble wrapping my head around the idea that somehow, bottles from products made in the early 1900s are just being dumped in wooded areas. It’s almost like trash collectors were purposely sorting out the glass, before the days of recycling, and driving it to the woods to dump on purpose. It’s such a waste.

MasonJarEarrings

These Mason Jar rectangle earrings, for example, are made from reclaimed World War II era Mason Jars! Cut to 1/4″ in width x 1/4″ in length, wrapped in sterling and hangs from sterling ear wires. Includes “The Story of the Glass” and priced at $45.00. Laura creates a variety of shapes for her earrings and pendants, you are sure to find something that you or someone on your holiday gift list will love!

This giveaway is closed. Congratulations to the winner, commenter #63 Laura!

baby-charmThings Remembered, the company that helps you celebrate Life’s Moments, introduces “Charm Story“- a one-of-a-kind collection of more than 50 silver plated engravable charms.  The charms come in shapes designed to reflect a unique occasion such as the birth of a baby or graduation. Each can be engraved with names, dates and other information to reflect the special story of the receiver, and can then be worn on either a charm bracelet or necklace.

Charm Story charms regularly sell for $20 each as do the charm bracelet and necklace, but right now to get you started, Things Remembered is offering the bracelet or necklace with a ”First Chapter” starter charm – either a heart, circle, star or dog tag-shaped charm – for just $30. Engraving is a small, additional cost. Great deal!

Things Remembered very generously sent me a necklace with three heart charms, each engraved with the name and birthdate of one of my children, plus little birthstone gems that clip on to the necklace. It’s beautiful!

Unfortunately that’s the last time you or I will see it because I was so excited to show it to my blog friends that I took it with me on the trip to Stouffer’s and left my jewelry pouch in my room-and of course the Cleveland Marriott East lost and found doesn’t have it. I hope whoever stole it from my room has kids named Ryan, Nathan, and Kaitlyn. Grrrrr. But I digress.

SO! Guess what?! Things Remembered has generously offered to give one lucky MomReviews reader their choice of a Charm Story Charm plus a bracelet or a necklace and the engraving of their choice!  Sweet!
