I Got Picked For Mom Central’s Team Fridge!

Holy cow, you guys, I can hardly believe this! Mom Central is doing this huge campaign with Frigidaire, and they sent out an email asking us to apply to review a new appliance. I applied to review a refrigerator because ours is ancient, and I got picked!! Check out what I’m getting:

It’s BEAUTIFUL, right? This is the Frigidaire Gallery 22.6 Cu. Ft. Counter Depth Refrigerator, with built in water filter, ice and water dispenser, energy saving cycle, and some kind of built in shelf organization system. I cannot WAIT to have a brand new fridge to stock with all kinds of healthy foods for the kids and I to snack on all summer. We keep a Brita water pitcher in our fridge now because we all like our water really cold, so I’m really happy about the water dispenser, too.

This fridge is part of a new collection from Frigidaire with more than 250 kitchen and laundry appliances, just in time for Mother’s Day! They designed these high-performance products with easy-to-use, time-saving features to give Moms more free time away from the kitchen and laundry room. Besides Team Fridge, Mom Central also put together Team Washer/Dryer, Team Dishwasher, and Team Electric Range/Microwave. You can follow our tweets using hashtag #Frigidaire Team on twitter.

Frigidaire recently conducted a survey to get a window into moms’ lives. The Frigidaire Motherload Index revealed that Moms log more overtime than most Americans. The index found that moms spend most of their waking lives – 200 hours each month, in fact – doing the activities we least enjoy rather than the things we love. And yet the majority of us say we “rarely” or “never” feel caught up on our household tasks.

Frigidaire kept all of this in mind when designing their new appliances. With new features such as a six-minute PowerPlus™ preheat time on their ovens, a Quick Clean dishwashing cycle that cuts the time it takes in half to clean our dishes, the Fits-More™ Dryer that allows us to dry the whole family’s clothes at once, and TimeWise™ technology to make the dryer and washing cycle equal, we can have enough time to watch our favorite shows—or even better—get a manicure!

Frigidaire has so much confidence in the efficiency of these products that they are offering a “More Me-Time” Guarantee: Moms will reduce the amount of time they typically spend on housework by at least 8 hours a month using a combination of three or more select Frigidaire appliances or they can return the appliances to their place of purchase within 30 days and get their money back!

Visit the Frigidaire site to learn more about the Me-Time Guarantee, the Motherload Index, AND to see how you can enter to win new appliances!  Hop on over to Frigidaire’s Facebook page too and tell them five things you would do with an extra hour each day to be entered to win!

Häagen Dazs New Five Ingredient Ice Cream

Thanks to MomCentral, we had the opportunity to review four of the new flavors of  “five”, a new line of Ice Cream by Häagen Dazs.  Each of the seven flavors include only five ingredients (Milk, Cream, Sugar, Eggs), plus a unique fifth ingredient- Ginger, Passion Fruit, Coffee, Mint, Milk Chocolate, Vanilla Bean and Brown Sugar.

Now, I’ll be honest. If I could have picked four flavors to review, I would have picked Coffee, Mint, Milk Chocolate, and Vanilla Bean.  But MomCentral and Häagen Dazs shook things up here at MomReviews by sending us Mint, Passion Fruit, Ginger, and Brown Sugar.  The Mint was devoured immediately. The other three flavors took a little more encouragement on my part.

The Mint was a lovely pale green shade and the purest mint flavor I’ve ever had. I would have loved to have sprinkled it with dark chocolate chips but it didn’t last long enough :)   Half a cup has 220 calories, 12 grams of fat of which 7 grams are saturated, 23 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein.

After the Mint, my favorite flavor was the Brown Sugar, which tasted, to me, like the ice cream part of Butter Pecan ice cream, if that makes sense.  If you like eating a bowl of oatmeal topped with brown sugar and milk, then you need to try a scoop of “five” Brown Sugar ice cream between two oatmeal cookies. TRUST ME.  Half a cup has 230 calories, 12 grams of fat (7 saturated), 23 grams of carbs and 5 grams protein.

The Ginger ice cream was surprisingly good.  You know what it tasted like to me? When I was a kid growing up in a suburb of Detroit, we used to get Vernor’s Ginger Ale flavored Ice cream in the summer. And every nearby ice cream parlor had Vernor’s Floats, which was scoops of vanilla ice cream in a glass full of Vernor’s Ginger Ale.  THAT’S what “five” Ginger Ice Cream tastes like to me. Half a cup has 230 calories, 12 grams of fat (7 saturated), 22 grams of carbs and 5 grams of protein.

Which brings us to Passion Fruit. In a word, ick.  It’s not that I don’t like fruit flavored ice cream- Strawberry and Black Cherry are Kaitlyn’s favorites, so I’ve had those. But Passion Fruit is a very strong tasting fruit, and it was just weird in ice cream. Just my opinion. Half a cup has 220 calories, 11 grams of fat of which 6 are saturated, 24 grams of carbs, and 4 grams of protein.

The site says “surprisingly lower in fat”, so I looked at the list of regular flavors.  Regular Häagen-Dazs® coffee ice cream also only has five ingredients, but half a cup has 270 calories and 18 grams of fat. So you do save a considerable amount of fat by choosing one of the “five” flavors.  Look for “five” in your grocer’s freezer.

Simply Chic and Eye Candy Review

Back to School time means one thing that I love- shopping for new school supplies! I love the bins at Target full of 39 cent glue sticks and safety scissors and pencil sharpeners. I love sharpening new pencils and filling up new zippered cases for the boys to tuck in their backpacks. And now, thanks to Carolina Pad and Paper, us Moms can shop for our own new supplies! Think about it, you are going to have forms to fill out and notices from the teachers to organize, you might have IEP forms or medication forms, whatever you have, why not use beautiful organizational supplies to get everything ready for back to school?

Available at Wal-Mart, Simply Chic is a line of classic designs with pops of color, and Eye Candy is bright and full of fun colors. Thanks to MomCentral, I got a box full of samples from each line and it was so fun going through everything! Here’s what I got:

From the Simply Chic collection I received the green portable hanging file with white polka dots, two fashion ballpoint pens, the black with white stripes folder, a yellow with white polka dots organizational folder with 8 plastic pockets, and a hardcover journal I just love, black with a white Fleur de Lis pattern on the outside and yellow with white polka dots on the inside.

From Eye Candy I got a mouse pad, white with colorful flowers, a box of note cards and a monthly calendar, both white with large multi-colored polka dots. Anything from either of these lines of products would be great to send to a student headed off to college to brighten up their dorm room desk, or to use for your own desk at home. I’m especially happy I got the hanging file because I needed something to put all the press materials I get with products for review, so that I can refer to them when I’m writing. And a cute polka dota file organizer is a lot better than just piling papers up on my desk until they threaten to topple over like an avalanche.

Get organized! Get to Wal-Mart and look for Simply Chic and Eye Candy, or go to CarolinaPad.com, and get organized with style!
