Wizard101 is an online multiplayer game that’s both fun for kids and super safe! Your character is a new student at a school of wizardry, and you play a school adventure game with collectible card magic, wizard duels, and far off worlds! The game allows players to create a student Wizard in an attempt to save Wizard City and explore many different worlds.and you complete quests for the teachers and play fun minigames in a safe, kid-friendly environment.

Teachers and other characters in the game assign your character a “Quest”, such as opening cages to release trapped fairies, and defeating a pesky infestation of imps. Gameplay is nonviolent and involves choosing a spell from a deck of cards and then playing that spell on the bad buy you are trying to defeat. The more times a player takes on a challenge, the more powerful they get and the better their spell cards are.

Wizard101 is free to play, but only to a certain level of the game. After that, there are two options – purchase a monthly subscription for all access, or pay to get access only to a certain area of the game. Having played the game, I can see why it would be worth it to buy the monthly subscription (currently $6.95 per person). Once you get the hang of the quests and the challenges, you want to keep going and explore new areas of the game.

What I like best about Wizard101 is that it’s very safe for kids. The chat feature has to be approved by a parent, and even then, players have to pick from a predetermined list of approved words and phrases. Kids are not allowed to use numbers in their chats, to prevent them from giving out their age or address. All characters are fully clothed, and there is no virtual drinking or smoking.
