Slow Melt Ice Pops from Popsicle

nutrition_popsicle_SMMightyMini

For my last official post as a Popsicle Brand Ambassador, I want to tell you about the Slow Melt Ice Pops from Popsicle.  Slow Melt Ice Pops contain a small amount of gelatin which makes them melt slower, just like the name says.  We tried the Slow Melt Mighty Minis, which come in a box of 24 assorted flavors – Fruit Punch, Lemon Lime, Strawberry Kiwi, Watermelon, and Tropical Orange.

Kaitlyn loves Popsicles, but she eats them so slowly, that they drip and melt and make a huge mess on her face and clothes. I like Slow Melt Mighty Minis because she gets a cold treat but can eat the whole thing fast enough that there’s no mess!  It’s the perfect treat for younger kids! And, because 3 of them only have 40 calories and she usually only asks for one, it’s a guilt-free treat.

Slow Melt Ice Pops also come in Dora the Explorer, Ice Age, and Fantastic Fruity.  We did a taste test comparing the Slow Melt pops to one of the Jolly Rancher pops, and the bit of gelatin does not change the taste or texture at all.  The person who came up with the Slow Melt idea is a genius!

Summer’s not quite over yet, in fact the temperatures are supposed to be in the high 80s here for at least another two weeks. Your kids will love cooling down on a hot day with a tasty Slow Melt popsicle!

#SlowTheMelt Popsicle Twitter Party This Wednesday!

There’s a new variety of Popsicle called SlowMelt that contain a bit of gelatin to help thicken the Popsicle so it won’t melt as slowly. You know what else needs to have it’s melting slowed down? The polar ice caps!

Come chat with @Popsicle, @mombloggersclub and the @PopsicleMoms (including ME, @MomReviews!) tomorrow night at the #SlowTheMelt  Twitter Party!

When: Wednesday, July 14, 2010
Time: 6-8 PM, ET
Follow @Popsicle on Twitter.
RSVP for the party here!

Popsicle is partnering with National Geographic Kids to help Slow the Melt. Whether it’s shutting off the lights every time they leave the room or turning off the water while brushing their teeth, there are very easy steps kids can take to help. In fact, National Geographic Kids created 10 simple things kids can do every day to help slow the melt of the polar ice caps!

As part of the Popsicle and National Geographic Kids partnership to help Slow the Melt, this summer Popsicle will utilize Twitter to help raise funds for research and exploration efforts to help decrease the impact of global climate change by encouraging Twitter users to include the #SlowTheMelt hashtag in their Tweets.

From July 12,2010 through August 15, 2010, for every Tweet containing the hashtag #SlowTheMelt, Popsicle will donate $1, up to $25,000, to the National Geographic Polar Fund!  Funds raised will support research and exploration efforts of the polar ice caps and global warming issues.

Popsicle Jolly Ranchers Review – I’m a Popsicle Mom!

PopsicleAmbassadors

I’m thrilled to tell you that I’ve been chosen as a brand ambassador for Popsicle!  Having three kids and living in Michigan where it gets very humid in the summer, we buy a LOT of Popsicles all summer long.  We like them in all flavors – original Popsicles, Creamsicles, and my personal favorite, Fudgsicles (YUM).   The hardest thing for me is limiting them to one (or two, if it’s really hot!) a day!

Through Mom Bloggers Club, I received an invitation to be a Popsicle Mom for this summer, which includes getting products to review and co-hosting a Twitter event this Wednesday, which I’m going to tell you about in a separate post.  A huge box arrived last Friday and carefully packed inside was a styrofoam cooler, packs of dry ice, and a box of new Popsicle Jolly Ranchers. My kids were so excited! Not only were they getting a box of Popsicles, but also dry ice to play with and a big box for Kaitlyn to climb in! lol

Oh, let me show you the picture of the rest of the Popsicle Moms! Aren’t we a good-lucking bunch?  :)

Before I tell you what we thought of new Popsicle Jolly Ranchers, let me tell you why “Anything’s possible with Popsicle® in 2010!”
The Popsicle® brand is launching a Popsicle® stick sweepstakes to give kids the chance to win one of three great prizes including family trips to dig for dinosaurs, swim with dolphins and Space Camp®!

To prove anything’s possible with Popsicle® in 2010, the Popsicle® brand is announcing a new promotion to give kids the chance to win one of many great prizes! Popsicle® is awarding three grand-prize family trips to dig for dinosaurs in Wyoming, dive with dolphins in Florida and explore the universe by going to SpaceCamp® in Huntsville, Ala.

To enter for a chance to win the grand prize trips and the daily prize, the National Geographic Kids™ “Big Book of Fun”, go to Popsicle.com/possibilities and enter the riddle answer from your Popsicle® stick. The promotion kicks off June 1 and ends September 30, 2010.

Do your kids love the jokes written on Popsicle sticks? Do they have a joke that should be ON a Popsicle stick? Have them enter the Popsicle® Stick Joke Contest! From June 14 through August 15, 2010, participate in the Popsicle® Stick Joke contest by submitting a kid-friendly joke to the Popsicle® Twitter page for a chance to have your joke included on a Popsicle® stick or on Popsicle.com. The top 5 jokes will be featured on Popsicle.com. One lucky winner will have his or her joke featured on a limited edition batch of actual Popsicle® sticks, which will be distributed in the US in 2011.

Now on to the review!  Take the delicious flavors of Jolly Ranchers hard candies and infuse them into an icy cold Popsicle and what do you get? New Popsicle Jolly Ranchers!  Each one is made with four flavors – Cherry, Blue Raspberry, Green Apple, and Grape – in random stripes and layers. The more you eat, the more flavor you get!  I like that each one has more of a certain flavor on the top, so that I can dig through the box and pull out the ones with the most Green Apple, my favorite of the flavors. Best of all, only 45 calories each, so I can have one and not feel guilty! Here’s the box:

Look for them in your grocer’s freezer now!  And please check back later today for my second post for Popsicle, where I’ll tell you about a very important Twitter party I’m co-hosting this Wednesday where YOU can help Popsicle and National Geographic raise funds for research into decreasing global climate change, and all you have to do is CLICK!
