Cabbage Patch Kids are back!
Written by Elizabeth on September 17, 2008 – 10:44 am -It’s the 25th Anniversary of the original release of Cabbage Patch Kids, and to celebrate, Limited Edition 25th Anniversary Cabbage Patch Kids are available, but only for a limited time. The special 25th Anniversary Kids are remakes of the original Kids, and they come packaged with a silver anniversary baby spoon and a special 25th Anniversary Birth Certificate with “Adoption Papers”.
Thanks to Team Mom, we received our Kid to much excitement. I was in High School in 1983, although I do remember the stories in the paper and on the news about people fighting over the last CK Kid on toy store shelves. Cabbage Patch Kids set off a frenzy among toy and doll collectors, and they were scooping up dolls, clothes, and accessories as fast as they could. I haven’t read or seen anything about any mania at stores this time around, so you should be able to get one without incident.
As you may know, Cabbage Patch Kids come with a birth certificate and a paper your child can sign to officially adopt their kid. But I have a confession to make- I can’t find the birth certificate! So, I can tell you that this is Mayme Lucille, but I can’t tell you when her “birthday” is.

Isn’t she cute? Kaitlyn likes playing “baby” with her, lying her down on a nest of blankets and covering her up for a “nap”. It’s been bugging me that the doll’s name is spelled “Mayme” and not “Mamie”, so I finally googled “cabbage patch kid mayme” and got a very interesting possible answer. It seems that Woody Kling, a very famous and highly acclaimed television writer who was the head writer for The Carol Burnett Show and All In The Family, also wrote the Cabbage Patch Kids Christmas Special for TV in 1983. His mother’s name was Mayme. Coincidence?
Check out the Cabbage Patch Kids website for information about the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition dolls, plus games and a lot more info. Thanks again to Team Mom for including me in this fun campaign!

20 Mule Team Borax
Written by Elizabeth on June 18, 2008 – 12:25 pm -Until I was contacted about doing the review of Purex Naturals Laundry Detergent, I didn’t realize how many other products that I use in my laundry room are part of the Purex family. One product I had seen in the store but had never used was 20 Mule Team® Borax, so when I was offered a box to try for this review, I said yes. So, what is it?
20 Mule Team® Borax is an all natural product with many practical uses in the laundry room, kitchen and bathroom. It’s made of 100% Borax, a naturally occurring mineral composed of sodium, boron, oxygen and water. 20 Mule Team® Borax is not harmful to washing machines, plumbing or septic tanks and does not contain phosphates or chlorine. For over 100 years, 20 Mule Team Borax has helped the world get their clothes smelling fresher and their households looking cleaner. Borax has long been, and will continue to be the natural way to clean. 20 Mule Team is all natural and always has been!
How to use 20 Mule Team Borax in your laundry:
In Regular Wash
Add ½ cup of 20 Mule Team® Borax to each wash load along with the recommended amount of detergent. For large capacity and front-loading machines, add ¾ cup.
Pre-Soaking Stains
Add one tablespoon of 20 Mule Team® Borax per gallon of water or ½ cup in washer. Pre-soak for at least 30 minutes before washing.
Hard Water
Got hard water? 20 Mule Team® Borax works great as a water conditioner, helping your detergent to work more effectively. Add ½ cup of 20 Mule Team® Borax along with your regular laundry detergent. You’ll get clean, fresh smelling laundry.
Delicate Hand Washables
Dissolve ¼ cup of 20 Mule Team® Borax and 1 - 2 tablespoons detergent in a basin of warm water and soak them for 10 minutes. Rinse in clear, cool water, blot with a towel, lay flat (woolens) or hang to dry (away from sunlight and direct heat).
Cloth Diapers & Baby Clothes
Flush out cloth diapers and begin soaking immediately, using ½ cup 20 Mule Team® Borax for each diaper pail of warm water. Follow soaking with warm wash, using the “regular wash” instructions above.
You can also download a PDF Booklet(link is at the bottom of the 20 Mule Team page) that gives uses for around the house, such as deodorizing your refrigerator and garbage pail, cleaning and deodorizing your shower, tub, and toilet, you can even use it to preserve flowers and make candle wicks! And the best part? It’s NOT EXPENSIVE! A 76 ounce box costs $8.69 on Drugstore.com, and that’s going to last you a LONG time.
Become a fan on the 20 Mule Team BoraxFacebook page! For more fun, add the Dirty Girl Quiz application and find out what kind of “Dirty Girl” you are! I’m a Dust Bunny Diva:

I’m giving 20 Mule Team Borax a MomReviews Fabulous Find badge for their Facebook page!
Purex also makes Zout Stain Remover, which I need to buy, because my favorite sweatshirt has some kind of greasy/waxy stain on it, and I’m determined to get it out. Do you use 20 Mule Team Borax? Tell me in your comment what your favorite use for it is!

Tone your legs with Fit Flops
Written by Elizabeth on May 24, 2008 – 10:57 pm -Just in time for summer, a website with the strange but fitting name of sweatyBetty has introduced the Fit Flop, a sandal that uses “micro wobbleboard™ technology” to tone the muscles of your thighs and butt every time you take a step. What an interesting concept! sweatyBetty is comprised of a team of “Betties” who take fitness very, very seriously-their about page shows them biking, skating, sailing, surfing, running, and doing yoga. The team has been written up in magazines and has won awards for their Customer Service Initiative and a “nation’s brightest businesswomen” award.
Fit Flops come in Black, Chocolate, Navy, Silver, and Red, and women all over England are using them to slim their legs. They sure are cute, but I wonder how comfortable they are? Or if I would just “wobble” right over onto my face if I tried to walk in them! This is the Fit Flop in Chocolate:

While I was on the site looking at Fitflops, I took a minute to read the link called “Betty’s Planet”. As a company, sweatyBetty is committed to doing their part to make the world a healthier place. They recycle paper into bedding for a bunny (awww!), they give employees cash towards the purchase of a bicycle so they don’t have to drive to work, they use wood hangers and bags made of recyclable paper, they don’t use photocopiers because of the paper waste, and they have timers on all the lighting. Way to go, sweatyBetties!! If you are interested in toning your legs while wearing a cute sandal, check out Fit Flops from sweatyBetty.com, a company that cares about you and the planet!
