Bob The Builder: Building Bobland Bay

March 18th, 2008

Just released on March 04, 2008 is a collection of six great episodes from Bob The Builder, called Building Bobland Bay and starring that industrious jack-of-all-trades Bob, his assistant Wendy, and his construction vehicle pals like Scoop, Lofty, and Rolley, plus some new helpers as well.

What I like about Bob The Builder is it’s simplicity. There is no crazy animation, no obnoxiously loud soundtrack (although I dare you to watch it more than a few times and NOT get that theme song stuck in your head), and best of all, it’s truly educational. I took some notes while we worked our way through the episodes, and I noticed the themes that are common to all of them. In general, there’s a big idea that Bob suggests breaking down into simpler steps, then everyone contributes an idea until they come up with a plan. Everyone uses their strengths, and if someone can’t do something, the others pitch in more. There’s never any belittling someone in the group for something they can’t do. Remember that book I reviewed, Your Child’s Strengths? It should come with a Bob The Builder DVD!

Building Bobland Bay has six episodes-

*The House That Lofty Built
*Bob’s Big Idea
*Lofty The Lifeguard
*Star Struck Spud
*Tumbler And The Skate Park
*Fantastic Flex

Even if Kaitlyn isn’t really watching while it’s on (she gets easily distracted as do all 2 year olds), I like knowing that she is absorbing lessons about teamwork and cooperation and working together. It’s like preschool readiness in a DVD! Would you like to have a copy shipped to you to give to a special someone? Maybe a surprise in an Easter Basket?
