The Summer of Do

Last night, my husband asked me to do something, I don’t even remember what, and I replied “I’ll try to get that done”. And he said “this needs to be the summer of DO”.  He’s a wise man, my husband. See, I am the world’s best procrastinator. I can find a reason NOT to do just about anything.   And Chris knows that I need constant encouragement and a little bit of nagging to keep from making those excuses.

So, I’ve decided he’s right. This DOES need to be The Summer of “Do”. I’ve already made a list in my head of the four biggest areas of my life that I need to start saying “Do” too:

1. Figure out a way to get the bills paid and then keep them caught up
2. Figure out a system to keep the house in generally good shape most of the time
3. Figure out when the best time for me to exercise every day is and then DO IT
4. Get my email inboxes caught up and keep them that way
Now it’s just a matter of figuring out how to figure out each of those items on my Do list!   Chris said he’s going to make a list too, so that should be interesting, to see what he thinks he needs to Do rather than procrastinate about.  He also wants to ask the boys to create their own Summer of Do lists.
This should be a very interesting summer :)

I am a list-maker. I make lists on the backs of envelopes, in spiral notebooks, on sticky notes. Problem is, I then leave those lists laying around all over the house and more stuff gets piled on top of them and the list disappears. Since I’m on the computer all day anyway, it makes sense to go somewhere online to organize all my lists, right? But where? Well, the list-making gods must have taken pity on me because I got an email last week from Jennifer at ListPlanIt!, a website with 24/7 Access to 350+ Printable Lists & Planning Pages!

There are so many lists on this site, I hardly know where to start! You download the list you want and open it in a PDF file, then you can type your information into the list and print it out. Genius! So far I have used the Checkbook register, the bimonthly bills and expenses schedule, and the meal planner section. The meal planner section contains lists for “My 21 Meals”-fill it in with the 21 meals you make the most often and use that to plan your menus each week. There are separate planners for a month’s worth of breakfasts, lunches, or dinners, or a monthly meal plan for everything.

The Home Management section has lists for making a monthly cleaning schedule, including one that is already filled in with a suggested schedule for getting each area of your house clean. There are “Shopping at Target” and “Shopping at Wal-Mart” lists that are already organized by department-awesome! The Personal Interests section has a weekly calorie counter, an exercise log, a list for books you’ve read, a medications tracker. Want to set aside a little money out of each paycheck for birthdays and Christmas gifts, or for a vacation? The Financial Planning section has lists for that. I’m telling you, ListPlanIt! has a list for EVERYTHING! You’ll need Adobe reader to access the lists, there’s a free download link on the site.

You don’t have to be a member to access the lists, there are a few that are free. But at only $9.95 for three months access to over 350 lists that you can fill out and save on your computer or print out and save in a binder, with all the information you could ever possibly need, it’s really a great deal! I’ve been talking a lot lately about saving money, and believe me, I know that even $9.95 can be a stretch when money is tight. Look at it this way- $9.95 now for 3 months access to a site that is going to help you keep track of every penny you spend, help you organize your grocery lists and meal plans so you don’t end up having to eat out because you forgot to plan a dinner, even help you keep track of the money in your savings account so you don’t have to charge Christmas gifts? I can almost guarantee you will make back that $9.95 that you spend on the membership!
