My Virtual Visit to the set of Drop Dead Diva

I LOVE the Lifetime original series Drop Dead Diva. I watched every episode of the first season, and yesterday, I had the pleasure of getting a virtual tour of the Drop Dead Diva set! The adorable Ben Feldman – happy birthday Ben! – was our guide as he walked around backstage with a cameraman and showed us the sets, introduced us to cast and crew members, and peeked in on scenes being rehearsed and even a scene being filmed.

Synopsis: When beautiful-but-vapid model wannabe Deb has a fatal car accident, she suddenly finds herself in front of Heaven’s gatekeeper, Fred, who declares her a self-centered “zero.” Outraged, she attempts to persuade Fred to return her to her shallow existence but is accidentally relegated to the body of the recently deceased Jane Bingum. A brilliant, thoughtful and plus-size attorney with a loyal assistant, Teri, Jane has always lived in the shadow of her more comely colleagues whereas Deb has always relied on her external beauty. Now, by a twist of fate and a bolt of divine intervention, Deb must come to terms with inhabiting Jane’s plus-size frame in the ultimate showdown between brains and beauty.

I’ll have clips from the set visit and the show available for you shortly. Pick up the Season One dvd box set in stores now, I saw it at Target yesterday. Or if you can wait, you can enter the giveaway I’m starting tomorrow for one of three copies of the box set courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment! Season one had AMAZING guest stars, like Rosie O’Donnell (The Rosie O’Donnell Show), Paula Abdul (TV’s “American Idol”), Tim Gunn (TV’s “Project Runway”), Liza Minnelli (Cabaret, Arthur), Sharon Lawrence (TV’s “Monk”), Kathy Najimy (TV’s “King of the Hill”), Delta Burke (TV’s “Designing Women”) and Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). I can’t wait to see who shows up for Season Two!

Greek Chapter Four on DVD

If you aren’t watching Greek on ABC Family, you are missing out on a well-written, well-acted comedy-slash-drama featuring great storylines and terrific actors. While it’s called Chapter Four, these episodes were actually the second half of season 2, and the tensions and romance don’t let up for a minute.

Sorority leader Casey (Spencer Grammer) finds herself torn between solid and decent Max (Michael Rady) and the slacker, live-for-the-moment Cappie (Scott Michael Foster). Rusty (Jacob Zachar), Casey’s geeky younger brother, falls for transfer student Jordan (Johanna Braddy), but she hooks up with new Kappa Tau pledge Andy (Jesse McCartney). Ashleigh (Amber Stevens) unsteadily wears the crown of ZBZ president, while nemesis Frannie (Tiffany Dupont) steps up her efforts to undermine her former sorority house. Evan (Jake McDorman) gives up his multimillion-dollar trust fund, while fundamentalist purity pledger Dale (Clark Duke) finds himself the object of a cougar realtor’s lust.  Dale and Calvin (Paul James)  become friends, and Cappie and Evan are  both recruited to join the school’s secret society.  And, Janeane Garafalo and Dan Castellaneta guest star as CRU professors.  Whew!

DVD Bonus Features:

  • “At World’s End” -  The cast and the writers and producers talk about the episode and reveal how they would spend their last 24 hours on Earth.  Clark Duke and Paul James steal the segment with a presumably obscene(and  bleeped out) response to the question of what they would do, it apparently involves cast member Dilshad Vadsaria (Rebecca).
  • Blooper Reel
  • Music Video: “How Do You Sleep?” By Jesse  McCartney

Here’s a clip of Casey asking Rebecca for advice on whether they should let some former sorority members rejoin:

You can watch all the episodes of Greek for free on Hulu, at http://www.hulu.com/greek.  Pick up the DVD for $26.99 on Amazon.com.

disclosure: ABC Family provided me with a copy of this DVD to facilitate my review. No other compensation was received.

Toot and Puddle Goes Green for Earth Day

toot-and-puddle

April 22, 2009 is Earth Day, and both Nickelodeon and Noggin (Nick’s collaboration with PBS) have special episodes planned with some of their most popular shows. Toot & Puddle, a new preschool series from National Geographic Kids Entertainment, encourages exploration and adventure, both at home and afar, by piquing kids’ natural curiosity about the world around them. Based on the best-selling book series by author Holly Hobbie, Toot and Puddle is the heart-warming story of two best friends, from Pocket Hollow, who find adventure wherever they go.

On April 22nd, Toot and Puddle will learn about pollution, recycling, and living “green” in two special episodes. I received a sneak peak DVD of the episodes to review, and both Kaitlyn and I enjoyed getting to know Toot and Puddle! These are the Earth Day episodes:

In “Recycle Cycle,” Toot and Puddle discover a pollution problem in Pocket Pond and the whole gang rallies to clean up their home environment. Toot makes a boat out of garbage he finds, and they learn about how to separate trash into recycling.

In “Being Green”, Toot & Puddle visit Uncle Bertie in Scotland. In the process, the pig pals get an enjoyable lesson in living green.

Check your local listings for the special Earth Day programming on Nickelodeon and Noggin on April 22nd!
