“VeggieTales: Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men” Out on DVD Today

VeggieTales: Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men is a fun parody that features plenty of high-energy, family-friendly music, including a new Silly Song with a theme that was selected through a recent online fan contest. The episode also includes the animated short, “Lenny & the Lost Birthday,” which also helps teach lessons about handling hurt and forgiveness. You can check out the DVD trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDd-PrisTZQ.

DVD Synopsis:
A long time ago, in the faraway town of Bethlingham, roved a band of merry men, led by the fearless Robin Good. Their mission: to help people by fundraising from the rich and giving to the poor! But when a greedy Prince starts stealing the townspeople’s hams, donations are down and Robin’s friends take off and decide to give robbing from the rich a try. Feeling rejected, Robin thinks things can’t get any worse, until he finds out that the ham-hoarding Prince has also captured his friends. Can Robin overcome his own hurt, rescue his friends and restore the townspeople’s hope? Find out in this fun Veggie story where kids learn that there’s no hurt too big for God!

Lenny & the Lost Birthday Short:
Will someone, anyone, remember Lenny’s special day? How could it be misplaced – or is it just his mistake? What could be so unusual in February that makes his family forget that March 1st is his birthday? A fun follow-up to our recent Leap Day!

Bubble Wrap – The Silly Song with Larry:
Larry and his friends are moving, so they wrap all the dishes and breakables in bubble wrap. Then they sing and even rap about how fun it is to pop bubble wrap!

Our review: I was introduced to VeggieTales when Ryan and Nathan were little, and for years, we had the movies and the CDs on constant repeat. It’s so wonderful that Big Idea Entertainment is still making movies all these years later that I can watch with Kaitlyn! As a kindergartener, she isn’t yet familiar with the story of Robin Hood and his “stealing from the rich to give to the poor” story, so I did have to pause and quickly explain. She thought it was wrong of the Prince to steal the hams, and she thinks it was wrong of Robin’s friends to steal from the rich people, so I think she gets the message :)

You can buy Robin Good & His Not So Merry Men on Amazon.com for only $10.49! Add it to your DVD collection today!

VeggieTales: ‘Twas the Night Before Easter

Just in time for Easter 2011 comes a new adventure from everyone’s favorite singing vegetables, in VeggieTales: Twas the Night Before Easter!  Featuring singing, costumes, and musical theater, this tale also features American Idol third-place finisher (from Season Six) Melinda Doolittle as Cassie Cassava.

It’s Easter time in Crisper County and cable news reporter Marlee Meade (Petunia Rhubarb) is hunting for a way to help others. On a tip that the old town theater will be shut down, Marlee cooks up a plan to save the stage and make a difference through the power of musical theater. With a cast of costume-clad townies, massive props and a 20-foot robot rabbit – Up With Bunnies is hatched! There’s only one thing missing the star of the show! When news spreads that singing sensation Cassie Cassava (Melinda Doolittle) is arriving to perform in her hometown church s Easter service, Marlee gets worried. Concerned about the competition, she schemes to steal the starlet for her own pageant! But when things go haywire, will it be curtains for Marlee’s dreams or will she discover the true meaning of Easter and what helping others is really all about? Find out in this hare raising adventure!

For The Silly Song break, we giggled along to “The Latest Dance Craze” with french peas Jean-Claude and Phillippe, wearing bunny ears and slippers teaching the steps to “The Hoparena”, like The Macarena but with more hopping. It was cute! Kaitlyn has requested we watch this a couple of times since we got it to review. It’s not heavy on religion which is fine for us, it’s less of a story about biblical Easter and more a tale of working together and helping others. Those are stories that I like my child to watch!

Twas the Night Before Easter is available at Christian stores and where DVDs are sold.

Chick-fil-A Teams Up With VeggieTales

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A is partnering with the popular children’s series VeggieTales for its upcoming Kids Meal promotion available between March 13 and April 17.  There will be five CDs available, each focusing on building self-confidence in children.

“Children are often embarrassed when they feel different than their peers,” said Angela Savage, Senior Kids & Family Marketing Consultant for Chick-fil-A, Inc. “Our hope is that these CDs will show kids they are perfect just as they are and that it’s good to be unique.”

There will be a new CD in the Chick-fil-A Kids Meal each week.  Children who receive the same CD twice can exchange the duplicate for another CD during the five-week promotion. After the promotion, parents can order CDs online at www.shopchick-fil-a.com as long as supplies last.

The five VeggieTales CD Topics are:

1. “You are a Friend!”

2. “You are Special!”

3. “You are Unique!”

4. “You are  Important!”

5. “You are Loved!”

Each CD includes music that can be played in a CD player or in a computer, fun activities and print-outs, videos with lessons from VeggieTales characters, information for parents, and special promotions.

Sadly for me, we don’t have Chick-fil-A here so I had to turn down the offer of some Kids Meal coupons. Instead, Chick-fil-A sent me two of the VeggieTales CDs.  When my boys were younger, we listened to and watched VeggieTales pretty much every day, so it was as fun for me to listen to the music as it was to introduce Kaitlyn to it! Here are the songs on the two CDs I received:

“You are Unique! “:

Track 1 – An introduction from Larry the Cucumber

Track 2 – “Billy Joe Mcguffrey”

Track 3 – “God is Bigger”

Track 4 – “The Hairbrush Song”

Track 5 – “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”

“You are Loved!”:

Track 1 – An introduction from Larry the Cucumber

Track 2 – “Love Your Neighbor”

Track 3 – “Going to the Promised Land

Track 4 – “The Water Buffalo Song”

Track 5 – “Think of Me”

Look for these great CDs in Chick-fil-A kids meals now through April 17!
