Ticks Transmit Diseases

Sarah Health

Today, it is essential to have high-quality flea and tick control inside and outside a home to avoid painful bites. Ticks are a type of arachnid that can transmit several types of diseases to humans, including:
• Lyme disease
• Colorado tick fever
• Rocky Mountain spotted fever
Heartland virus
Relapsing fever

These are the most common tick-borne diseases, but there are additional diseases that infect people in other countries. Another strange condition that is transmitted from a tick is a delayed allergic reaction to red meat. More ticks are relocating to new areas of the world because the arachnids arrive accidentally in shipping containers. Many ticks are infectious immediately after hatching, leading to more individuals contracting an illness from the arachnids.

How Fleas Infest Homes and Lawns

Alternatively, fleas are a biting insect that frequently latch onto a dog’s fur, and this is how people have homes and lawns that are infested with fleas. Fleas do not have wings but will ride on hosts to live in a new environment. A few species of fleas live on rodents, and when mice or rats enter a building, the fleas may begin to live in the carpets, draperies and upholstery. In some cases, fleas can transmit diseases such as bubonic plague, but most individuals are more concerned about the annoying bites that can lead to skin irritation.

Check Pets to Find Fleas and Ticks

Getting rid of ticks and fleas is imperative, but it is often a difficult process because the arachnids and insects are tiny. They are even capable of surviving adverse weather conditions. A common misconception could be that ticks go into hibernation when temperatures are extremely cold. There is, however, a possibility that this might not be true. A tick can survive in winter by slowing down its metabolism and going into a condition known as ‘torpor’. That way, they can hide and wait for an opportunity to cling to your pet and feed on their blood. So, in order to eliminate these pests, homeowners must remain diligent to remove the ticks and fleas from animals and the surrounding environment. Pet owners must check their pets carefully for fleas and ticks to take immediate action.

Eliminate Fleas From a Home

For fleas, homeowners need to bathe their pets multiple times while using specialized soap. They also need to vacuum the floors and carpets several times to remove the adult fleas and eggs. Washing fabric items in hot water before drying the items at a high temperature can also help to eliminate fleas. It is also possible to spray pesticides in a home using a fogging system, and this process is also helpful if a property’s lawns are infested with fleas.

Prevent Tick Bites

To prevent tick bites while outside a home or walking in a wooded area, it is a good idea to apply a repellent on the skin along with covering up as much of the body as possible. Some homeowners are choosing to keep guinea fowl on their lawns because the birds will consume ticks. However, for the best flea and tick control, there are also professional exterminators available.
