Do You Have an Exceptional Child?

Sarah Lifestyle

Ask most parents and they will tell you that their children are exceptional.

Now, that is certainly not always the case, but many parents will say so for the record.

Whether your children are exceptional or not, you no doubt love them. That being the case, you probably do not have a problem (nor should you) when they do something exceptional, even stand out for another positive reason.

So, if you have an exceptional child and/or one who has stood out in other positive ways, will you tell the world about it?

Kids Are Doing Some Interesting Things

If you follow the news on a regular basis, you likely hear about some kids in the U.S. and around the globe for that matter doing some interesting things.

Sure, the media is oftentimes quick to make note of the bad things younger people do, but there are some wonderful stories out there if you take the time to listen. Even if some youngster isn’t inventing something and/or helping others, he or she may have quite the story to tell.

Among some of the examples in the distant past and more recently:

  • Mariette Beco – Born in 1921, this girl should have made more headlines than she did. At the age of 11, Beco reported seeing a woman standing in her family’s yard (though somewhat off the ground) as she gazed out of a kitchen window on a winter day. With bright light focused on the woman, Beco was sure she had seen a female in her yard. Over the next two months, Beco would report seeing the woman eight times. As Beco saw it, the Virgin Mary appeared in front of her. Did she really see such a person or was she simply dreaming, perhaps even making up the story? Although she did not talk about the accounts much as her life went on, Beco (lived to be 90) was convinced that she did in fact see the famed Virgin Mary;
  • Child entrepreneurs – Although not all children (many in fact) turn into the next creator of something similar to Facebook or Apple, there are countless youngsters nationwide and around the world for that matter that have come up with some neat inventions over the decades. Whether it was Internet marketing programs, hair care products, kitchenware or software platforms (just to name a few), countless kids have made a name for themselves in the world of being exceptional at such young ages. The moral of the story is rather simple. If you have a child or children who have creative minds and the drive and passion to do something, stand back and let them do it. Sure, some may grow tired of the pursuit or pursuits after time, but many others will stick with it for the long haul. By doing the latter, they could become the next great child entrepreneur.

Children Saving Lives

  • Kids helping save lives – Lastly, although kids are not typically trained to deal with health-related matters, don’t be shocked if you hear about children saving the lives of a parent, older neighbor, maybe even another child. In both the media and on the Internet, there have been stories over the years of this child or that child turning out to be the family and/or neighborhood hero. For instance, the story of a 3-year-old in Kansas saving his mom’s life went national. The toddler was able to use his mother’s smartphone and make a 9-1-1 call when the latter had gone unconscious after suffering from low blood sugar. There was also the story last year of a 15-year-old Oklahoma boy who leapt into action when his neighbor’s home caught fire. The youngster’s actions saved the lives of a family of five, a family that’s alive today thanks to the actions of a teen.

Encouraging Your Child to Act

When it comes to your children, never push them into something, though you are certainly advised to give them all the encouragement possible.

Whether they believe in something only they may see, they come up with an idea for something to help others, or they actually end up helping someone else in terms of saving their life, always be supportive.

By seeing how you back your child when even others may not, you could be creating an exceptionally good situation for your young one.
