4 things to look out for in Blackpool 2018

Sarah Travel

Blackpool is one of those cities where there’s always something going on, and while there are staples that happen all year round, there’s plenty of brand new events popping up on the 2018 calendar.

Planning a weekend getaway next year? Check out these four amazing hints for finding the perfect activities to get up to.

  1. Events at The Blackpool Tower

The Blackpool Tower is the most iconic part of the city – who hasn’t played the game ‘spot the Tower’ on the drive up? And it’s not just the Tower itself, although it is incredible, there is the Dungeons, the 380 Bar, the Circus, the Ballroom and Jungle Jim’s for the kids.

Given that it’s got all this under its roof, it’s no surprise that there is a great deal going on in 2018. Check out their calendar to see what’s going on, but there’s plenty to get involved with no matter what you are interested in.

  1. A brand new rollercoaster

Yes you read that right. In 2016 Blackpool Pleasure Beach announced that they were going to build a new £16.25m rollercoaster, and that it would be the first in the UK to feature a double launch – an advanced form of technology that gives two powerful thrusts of acceleration. So far we’ve got a named – Construction 2018 – and that it will have 15 interactions including two tunnels.

If you consider yourself a bit of an adrenaline junkie then you definitely shouldn’t miss out on this for your 2018 bucket list. It’s due to open early next year, so keep your eyes peeled and get planning a spring getaway to Blackpool.

  1. Blackpool Illuminations

The Illuminations are still going in 2017 but that doesn’t mean we’re not excited for next year. These electrical wonders have been a staple of British entertainment for decades now, with thousands of people flocking every autumn to see them.

As you’d expect, details on what exactly is coming for the Illuminations in 2018 is a little thin on the ground; we’re already dying to know who’ll be doing the switch-on. But we would definitely recommend getting this on your to-do list for next year.

  1. Competitions, championships and shows

Regardless of your interests and hobbies, there are plenty of professional competitions and championships for you to go and watch – or you could even enter if you fancy yourself a challenge. The Winter Gardens is one of the best venues in the country for competitions and championships and shows of all kinds. Get yourselves tickets booked to some of these incredible events for next year and you’re guaranteed a good time.
